Stayed at the Flamboyant about 30 years ago and remember it as a no-frills place on the beach. Anyone have any more recent experiences about this hotel (or others) and Grenada. Thanks.

It's still a no-frills place--but it's across the street and down a zillion steps from the beach! I'd imagine that not much has changed at the hotel, other than minor upkeep. Grenada has seen some development, but probably not as much as some of the other islands.
The last time I was there, almost 2 years ago, they were in the process of adding more rooms. I believe they referred to these new rooms as "deluxe", whatever that means. You may want to check their website: www.flamboyant.com
Had planned to stay at the Flamboyant for 16 days over the holidays but moved after three, up the street to the Mariposa. The Flamboyant is so tourist oriented that the cruise lines drop their older travelers there for the day. The beach is way down the hill and due to the November high tides, the water was rough. The pool was about 3/4 shaded so you have to get down there early to get some sun. The rooms are across the street from the pool and beach, so although each room has a view of St Georges, you see it through telephone wires. Any more questions?
