I've done the ferry. The water is calm, the ride is short, but there are far too many people packed on board... that made it very unpleasant... I would suggest either a short plane ride (I think it's only $50 roundtrip), or hiring another boat. But, it is survivable if you choose to do it.
I have been on the ferry many time with no problem at all. There are 3 different ones depending on your schedule. If you wait for the last one then you may at times encounter all seats taken but the ride is 40 minutes and the stand on the bow or aft is enjoyable. Be sure to check the return ferry because it does not wait and you will be stuck there until the next day. $8.00 round trip by ferry and $25.00 one way by plane. (6 minutes if on schedule)There are other ways to get there but I don't think you want to go that route in a small boat.
