Hello.
I would like to visit the US Virgin Islands this winter. The fares from NYC are about twice the price to fly directly to ST. Thomas as they are to fly to Puerto Rico. I have been to Puerto Rico once already this past year, which fortunately included a day trip to Cuelebra. To get there we took a ferry from Fajardo. Searching the Internet I've learned that it is possible to take a ferry from Fajardo to the U.S.V.I. Has anyone does this before? Any suggestions or comments would greatly be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Ross.

It would seem that is a long ferry ride. What about inter-island air on Amer. Eagle or Cape Air? Is it that much more?
The ferry coincides with V.I. government paydays and goes on, I believe, only one Friday a month from St. John, stopping in St. Thomas and on to Fajardo in Puerto Rico. The ferry company provides complimentary bus service to San Juan. The ferry returns on Sunday. Call Transportation Services at 340-776-6282 for the exact information. I would not do this unless I had lots of time to spare.
They now do it every weekend! I think the trip takes two hours.
Or try the seaplane, http://www.seaborneairlines.com/
not as expensive as American,
or Cape Air.
