Family Travel Question please help?!

I am not anywhere near the world traveller most of you are and I could sure use some advice. Our kids are 5 and 7 years old with a 1 year old to top it off! We want to take advantage of flying before the youngest turns two and we have enough airline miles to get to Miami. As we are both school teachers in Washington state we can get off the 1st week in April. So....... we are trying to figure out if we are in fact nuts to take a trip to the Bahamas, Caribean?? A couple of years ago we went to the Royal Solaris (All inclusive)Los Cabos Mexico and had a blast! We don't want or need any babysitters we just want a great beach and pool to spend time with our kids. We really like the All inclusive for the fact it was so easy with the kids. We never left the Resort. If any of you have ANY words of wisdom I would REALLY appreciate it. I do realize some kids will be on Spring Break and I don't quite think we would fit in with that crowd. Sorry I am so long on writing this darn thing. Thanks in advance for ANY help!
Dave

While it was several years ago, I spent my first spring break as a teacher on Grand Bahama Island at what was then the Princess Resort. It was a nice hotel, and I was surprised that it wasn't overrun with high school spring breakers. However, I wouldn't recommend it for you guys because you have to ride a bus to the beach.

Not sure what your budget is, but Atlantis on Paradise Island can be an all-inclusive. We walked through there and ate at one of the restaurants on a different trip and I think kids would absolutely LOVE it - really cool aquariums with a manta ray, moray eels, etc.

Have you thought about just driving down to the Florida keys?

Good luck!

Thanks a bunch for the reply and advice TM. I will definitely look into the Florida Keys. I read so many great things about the Bahamas and it is so beautiful I thought it would sure be neat to go there. The kids as well as I will be just impressed with the beautiful water and beaches. We really aren't hard to please. As far as budget I think the Atlantis may be pushing it for us but maybe we'll just eat top ramen for a month, save up and go for it! If anybody else has advice I really do appreciate it. I have used this board for a couple of different trips and it has always been so helpful. Thanks,
Dave

Hi Dave!
Young kids would LOVE the water slides and aquariums at Atlantis. You can stay at the Comfort Suites nearby, which includes a continental breakfast, and use all the Atlantis facilities legally. You can even sign tabs to your room at CS while on Atlantis property.
The beach, however, can be a bit rough there, especially in April, but there is a man-made inlet beach that the little ones would enjoy.
Meals are expensive, but you could buy lite lunches at the pool bars or the deli, and save money by eating dinners off-site.
If you stay in Florida, many people on this site recommend Hawk's Cay (in the Keys) for families.
Best of luck!

Okay, I have never been, but...how about a cruise through the Caribbean? You can fly to Miami, catch a boat and have everyone contained on the ship. All of your food, pools are right there! Then you can get off the ship, and sightsee alittle....???
