Exuma-getting around

My husband and I, along with two other couples will be on Great Exuma in 18 days! We are all adventurous 40-somethings and will be there 7 nights. We are renting Seastar house on Tar Bay. We are all taking different flights in and we arrive 2 hours apart from each other. We plan on renting a car but we're unsure if the first couple should get to the rental house first, and then go back to the airport to pick up each couple as they arrive, or if we should just all hang out and wait? Also, we intend to rent a boat some days and scooters other times, so we don't really need the car the whole week. But we're concerned with taking the car back, and then how we would get back to the house, or how to get to the boat/scooter rental places. We hate to rent the car for the whole week and have it just sit there. Any suggestions on how to handle this?

If you will post this question on the Exuma forum of TA and address it in your message to "Seven Mile Sailing" he is a very helpful resource (has a family home there and has been going there for many years) and I bet he will have suggestions.
Happy travels!

Thanks ishkribbl...normally I get plenty of responses here but I guess since the Exumas are sorta out there, not quite the traffic as other locations.

Rent the car at the airport then come back in 2 hours. It is only about 12 minutes to Tar Bay from GGT. If you take a taxi to the house it is about $25, and ask for Clifford or Junior. We have owned a house on Exuma for over 30 years.

PS Don't forget to drive on the left and circle the roundabouts to the left (there is one after you leave the airport).

Those left-side roundabouts are a gas. Glad to hear you're renting a boat. That really made the trip so much fun for us especially boating over to Chat-N-Chill. A day with Chat-n-Chill is like a day without sunshine.

Have a great time and don't forget about the Friday Night Fish Fry!

We stayed in G Exuma and rented the car for the whole week. Dont think we saw anyone on scooters. We rented a boat for a day and went over to Chat and Chill and other beaches on Stocking island. I think you would need the car to get you back/forth from the boat rental place. Even if you rented a boat for a couple days you would have to dock it over in the harbor and would need a car to get you back to the house. Hope this helps. I found the beaches on the mainland spectacular and hence didnt feel the need to rent a boat for more than a day (we are not boaters). Hope this helps.
