Exploring Bermuda (Can you rent a car?)

We will be visiting Bermuda for 3 days (on a cruise.) Would like to explore on our own. I know you can rent scooters, but are cars not allowed? Is our best bet to take ferries, a bus, hire a guide? Also, we want to see Hamilton, Horseshoe Bay...any more secluded beaches, or not to miss restaurants (can be casual). Thanks for any advice/recommendations!

No rental cars on Bermuda. I'd recommend against renting scooters. The roads and the traffic make it a risky choice. The bus and ferry system is easy to use, safe and goes almost everywhere.

I don't have time to do a really detailed reply right now, but I have replied to several " cruise to Bermuda, now what?" kind of threads in the past that will answer a lot of your questions. To find them, click on my screen name and scroll through my threads and give them a read, then if you have more questions, I can answer later. There are also a few other regular Bermuda visitors who will hopefully chime in. But do a search for the old threads I have replied on for now and see if they help.

I do recommend hiring a taxi. They can take you along the south coast or to various land marks and you can stop along the way to see anything that sparks your interest.

I know that they do blue flag (taxi) tours, but you could also just hire a taxi for a couple hours. I can give you a recommendation if you’d like.

We rented scooters but am reluctant to recommend since they can be dangerous especially at junctions. We had no issues but during our stay an Englishman got killed on a scooter. Unfortunately it is the only way to see the island independently and go down roads the buses do not. Despite the danger we would do it again.
