Emerald Palms Resort-Andros, Bahamas
My last try to see if any travelers have stayed at the Emerald Palms Resort on Andros Island, Bahamas in the past 18 months.
I plan to take a Beach Cottage but could use some help about resort, location of cottage request, before I make reservations for a 6 night stay there the first week of June 2007. We are planning on staying at the Atlantis-Coral Tower for 2 nights for some "action" before "R&R" at Emerald Palms Resort.
NEED HELP!!

I would kind of doubt you will get much response here about Andros, it is probably the sleepiest of all the Bahama islands, and probably most laid back. The island is just on the verge of being "discovered" and since there are very few resorts on island and not great transportation to the island yet, there is not alot of tourism.
All that said, you might check some of the other message boards like www.bahamas-mon.com and www.bahamas.com for more info on the island. Also www.wheretostay.com might have a bit more info as well.
Hope this helps.

wantsomesun: Thanks. I was able to get a bit more info on the sites you suggested than I had before but still travelers reviews were non-existant, unfortunately. On 1 site they rated (by whom I will never know) 2 other resorts with 4 1/2 stars and no stars for Emerald Palms even though they accommodate as many as 60 guests. With only 4 resorts , 2-3 small hotels ad 5-6 bungelow operations, if the food is not good you are stuck with eating options since the resorts are with 3 meals/day.At $600/day (after mid-April) for 2 in a Beach Cottage and having buillt additional Beach Cottages in the last 2 years they must offer a pretty nice environment, one would think to command that rate. In high season it is $775/couple in a Beach Cottage.Just for your info they have 2 scheduled flights a day to the airport near the resort from Nassau ($125 RT) and 3 a day from Ft.Lauderdale/Miami so it has reasonable air access since 2003. I think I will give it a shot considering the snorkeling is that good and we have been in the St. John and Virgin Gorda area resorts and waters 5-6 times in the past 10 years or so.
ANY OTHER INPUT WOULD BE WELCOME.
We plan to make a reservation in late Dec. for early June.

Any of the out islands will have a quieter crowd, like Andros, Abaco Cat,Eleuthera and Harbour Island.
You might try some of these resorts and websites for more info.

Thanks for all the input. As for medical care I take out trip insurance with $50,000 of emergency evacuation and $250,000 of medical coverage.I needed it once in Asia and it worked fine. This allows you to charter a jet prop right at that location and in the case of Andros you would be in Nassau in 15 minutes and Miami in ubder 30 minutes. Our experience is that remote locations of any quality have oxygen tanks and access to a registered nurse on the island.

If medical care is a question, than I would HIGHLY recommend Harbour Island or Abaco as a better suggestion.
Harbour Island now has a state of the art health care facility, and a doctor on island full time as well as nursing staff and a full "hospital" facility. There is even an ambulance on island for emergenices.
Also check Abaco at www.coconuttelegraph. I know there is a good health facility there as well, and since I was involved in getting an ambulance on island I know there is one there as well.
