Eating Options in Negril

We tried to get to Negril couple years back but it didn't work out. Hoping to make it there next weekend.

We're in the process of booking accommodation on the beach which will include breakfast, so are looking for recommendations for eating & drinking options, of which I gather there are plenty and have picked up a few recommendations by reading other reviews eg Sips & Tips, LTU Pub. Couple meals in a more expensive restaurant would be great but generally looking for inexpensive local food.

Thank you in advance!

Most of our favorites were on the Cliffs, we enjoyed Push Cart, Alice's, Three Dives. Had drinks, but not dinner at Ivan's, which is at Catcha a Falling Star.

On the beach we enjoyed lunch at Best of the West. Had dinner one night at the restaurant at Kuyaba. Sort of expensive, but it was good. We had ok pizza at Bar-B-Barn, where we were staying, since it was dark when we arrived and we were pretty clueless about the area. I understand Cosmos is good, but we didn't eat there.

Lucky you! We really love CHICKEN LAVISH, which is one of the oldest, cheapest, and I think, best small restaurants in Negril. It's a very basic place on the cliffs ( not on the ocean side) but has amazing fried chicken, sweet potato fries, conch soup, fresh fruit drinks, and other specialities. We've been going there for over 25 years.

For a medium-expensive restaurant, try ROCK HOUSE on the cliffs. It's a beautiful restaurant designed by an Australian architect with killer views from most tables of the cliffs and ocean below. The food is only OK,(curries, fish, jerk-style Mexican) but the memorable setting makes up for it. Drinks are fairly good, but expensive. I especially liked a drink called GRANNY POLITE.

I think other than the view, LTU is only OK. But I totally agree with the recommendation for Best of the West, which is a small jerk-chicken stand almost directly across from the IDLE AWHILE resort. I also agree with the recommendation for THREE DIVES, which gives you a lot of food, cooked simply but well, on the ocean side of the cliffs close to town ( though there isn't much of a view).

BAR-B-BARN used to offer really good barbecue chicken, but I haven't been there in a couple of years, so don't know if they still do, or if it's any good.

Final recommendation for breakfast- COCO LA PALM makes very good banana bread fresh every morning, and had excellent coconut or regular pancakes, too! DO NOT go there for dinner, however. YUCK. Lunch at the beach bar is OK, too for simple fare- hamburgers, jerk chicken, etc., but not as good as BEST OF THE WEST.

I forgot to add that ROCK HOUSE used to offer roundtrip transfers back and forth to your hotel. Don't know if they still do, but check it out. Have fun!

I agree with 'Sips & Bites'. It's a great inexpensive local place up on the Cliffs, but worth the cab ride. For lunch I had a steamed fish plate so good I went back and had it twice! No alcohol and closed Saturdays (7th day adventists) but you can bring Red Stripe with you if you want.

For your 'more expensive' restaurant you can't go wrong with Ivan's at Catcha Falling Star (on the Cliffs). The setting, atmosphere, service, food... the overall experience is really special.

'Sweet Spice' is down in town so closer to you at the beach. It was a fun place featuring Jamaican dishes and a mix of tourists and locals.

Since I was staying on the Cliffs most of where I ate wouldn't be especially convenient for you, but honestly I didn't have a bad meal my entire 10 days there.

Ras Rody's is a little roadside stand across from the entrance of Tensing Pen where they serve 'ital'... the rastafarian food (vegan) with wonderful dishes made from produce grown on his own farm in the hills.

Same area Shark's and Alice's are funky but fun places to eat.

I was at LTU only once for breakfast and it didn't wow me, except the view was great.

If you're out around the Lighthouse, stop in to Out of Town pastries for their meat patties.

Canoe is a nice spot down in closer to town, waterside of the street. I had drinks &/or lunch there a couple times.

One more thing... BANANA BREAD! Fresh, homemade, from the guys selling strolling on the beach in the mornings.

I highly recommend the Rockhouse - we had a romantic dining there during our honeymoon trip

http://www.rockhousehotel.com/eat.php

They also have new restaurants called Pushcart w/c I suggest that you go there as well.

Here are other options:
