Dual U.S. - Other Country Citizenship - Can You Visit Cuba?
Hello:
With all of the recent news, I saw a report where they interviewed a tourist in Cuba who had dual citizenship (one of those being U.S.) and who was traveling on his other passport. Is there some kind of loophole that allows dual citizens (U.S. & another country) to visit Cuba w/o prosecution when they return to the U.S.? Thanks!

The man is not correct. Dual citizenship doesn't stop you from being a U.S. citizen and being subject to U.S. law. Granted, U.S. rules about visiting Cuba are loosening up, but there are still rules in place.

Only US citizens are barred by the US government from visiting Cuba. As a US citizen you can go illegally via Canada, Mexico, or any other country as a point of departure. The Cubans will even assist your in your deception by not stamping your US passport. You still need a $75 visa to enter Cuba but don't know where a US citizen applies for the visa. However, US citizens are subject to heavy fines if caught.
Once in Cuba, should you develop a problem, you have no access to an embassy or other aid that a US gov't could provide to you in a foreign country. While it is frequently done, there is some risk for a US citizen to visit Cuba.

AMericans do know their embassies do not assist them in most cases.. if you are robbed in Paris for instance.. their embassies will not assist.
If they get sick in Prague.. the most their embassies may do is get them a list of doctors that speak English.. and that's on a maybe..
The embassys is not your life line if something goes wrong.. unless its war ,, or maybe they will organize flights out in case of huge natural diasater.. but even then as a for instance most tourist who were stuck in Cabo San Lucas last year got help from charter companies and desk clerks..
Travelling with the illusion your Embassy is really much help to you in 98% of emergencies is more of a risk,, then vacationing in a place like Cuba.
But please.. may there is something else you mean when you say "develop" a problem that you think an Embassy would assist with ..
