Drapers San guest house/ Goblin Villas

Hi there,
My boyfriend and myself got back from Port Antonio on Sunday and decided to post this review for anyone's future interest. The guest house was a nightmare. I don't know if all guesthouses are along the same description but this one certainly was. Thankfully we got out of there and stayed at Goblin Hill Villas after 4 nights in Drapers San. Goblin hill was everything you could ever want and much more. The most beautiful, well kept villas with a view to die for. People very helpful and friendly and go out of their way to help. They were the only reason our vacation was splendid, definitely recommend them.

What didn't you like about Drapers San? I've thought of staying there before but haven't been by.

I did visit Goblin Hill and liked it, but decided to stay at Fern Hill instead, we found a better room/deal there.

Awww, Com' on tantan, where's the trip report? No one can visit Port Antonio without providing a trip report on this site...it's against the rules!

Sorry guys,
Been busy with school and other things. Yeah Drapers San was one of my worst experiences on vacation that is. Where do I begin....The outside looked pretty good. There were firstly 5 dogs we were not warned about, luckily I love dogs so that was not a big deal. Ofcourse we were told while we were there that one of them was most likely to bite!! The food was very tasty they have a good chef, however the portions of the food definitely not worth 12$ per meal. For 3 nights we were pretty hungry wanting for more. I do have a small appetite so I can imagine the rest of the guys there. The so called inclusive breakfast consisted of soppy, cold toast and some guava jelly with one banana per person, at times you were lucky to get that too.As a special treat one morning we got eggs... sorry one egg divided between 2 people.
The room had a mattress that we could not sleep on, it was sponge and had molded shapes in it from previous customers... you had to make sure you slept in the right curve or else...hello back aches!!!Mosquito net hanging above our heads filled with insects, we did not bother to pull it down. The water was not running well even when you wanted to shower. The interior was just far too ramshackle to even describe. There was someones dress hanging when we got into the room. Pieces of cloth pined up with safety pins served as drapes. Most of all if you speak Italian that place will be a haven for you. If not then you'll be like me and my boyfriend trying to learn a new language as there were other guests there that could not communicate in English, if you've studied sign language well that might just work.I was just really sad that it was not what we expected infact far from that.I clicked pictures of the interior of our room for my family to see. For anyone interested let me know... pictures speak louder than words!!Thank God for Goblin Hill

Long suspected, always wondered -- thanks for the confirmation. And yes, thank God for Goblin Hill. Outside of the conversion of Dragon Bay to Sandals, it's very hard to find unusual AND good accomodations in Port Antonio...

Dear Friends
I am the owner of Drapers San
I was reading such report and got horrified
Everybody is free to choose where to go and what to like
We do not pretend to run a five stars htel but I am deeply offended by guests telling lies
We do not have five dogs but only 2.
One is a trained dog so if an intruder tries to enter at night he will bite.
Breakfast is served every morning at our best capacity and our guests do not get half an egg but an omelette, toasts, butter ,jam, a plate of mixed fruits, coffee ,various varieties of tea.We also serve different menus for vegetarians or allergic guests.
Dinner at US 12 is composed by a rice plate, chicken or fish, dumlings, vegetables, fruits. Our cook always asks if somebody wishes something more and in such case he serves what is required.
About the cleansiness we are proud to inform you that we got the TPDCO licence scoring the highets marks for it and we make sure that rooms are tidy every morning
About language now, I am originally Italian and I live in Jamaica since 22 years Is it possible that I do not speak English? The staff is Jamaican and Jamaica is an English speaking country
We have guests from many different countries and some of them are Italians. Do you find anything wrong if we address Italians in Italian?
Here we have an international atmosphere with Europeans, Canadians, Japanise, ect
It is nice to exchange languages, cultures and experiences
if somebody is so narrow minded to get shocked to sit at the same table with people for other countries maybe he/she should try to acquire some useful travelling tips
Goblins Hills is a beautiful place and we do not try to compare it to our guest house but we are not pleased to find out that we are described as a living hell
It is not fair and it is frustrating all our efforts to keep our place in a good, pleasant shape.
About tivertonhouse comment, I wonder why he/she ever suspected some negative situations if he/she never spent time with us

Thanks a lot for listening

Carla,

I just read this and thought you must not have noticed that the comments you are answering are from 2004, over 8 years ago.
