In 2007 and 2008 I believe Dominica was unfortunate to get hit with 2 or 3 pretty sever hurricanes. Has anyone visited the island since Jan. 2009 and if so can you comment on the condition of the beaches, foliage and the resorts? Also, many of you on the this Board know we are avid snorkelers and while I have found Grenada and St. Lucia and Barbados not to offer quality snorkeling in terms of varied types of healthy coral, variety of fish, sea fans/sponges, etc. and 30ft. visibility, how are the conditions on good days around Dominica? Is Dominica close enough to Tobago Caye that they offer 1 day power boat trips to the caye for the spectacular snorkling we did there when we stayed at Petit St. Vincent that was only 20 minutes away.
We are considering it for early Dec. '09. Any recommendations for a resort at under $600/day with tax/service (shoulder season rates) with 2 quality meals/day (do not want fancy) in nice accommodations, near luxury (NOT Four Seasons)? Considering it takes 1 whole day there and back we wouls stay for 6 or 7 nights at the resort. Any help appreciated!!
