Does it ever rain in Aruba
Thinking of going to Aruba in the beginning of October. Is that the rainy season in Aruba. I know it is out of the hurricane zone but I thought I heard that was there rainy season.

Aruba doesn't qualify as desert (<10 inches of rain per year), though it looks very desert-ish. Even LA gets less rain than Aruba.
Aruba gets 17 inches of rain per year,
though that rain is spread over many small showers.
It rains 131 days per year in Aruba.
For comparison, rainfall per year:
Phoenix--7 inches
Spokane WA--16 inches
Dallas--33 inches
LA--14 inches

hmm, I heard it never rains in Aruba, that's what the locals said too.
I was there December, for Christmas two years ago. It rained once the entire two weeks, which was a tiny sprinkle. We were on the beach and didn't even get off our chairs, it was so light and so short.

Don't think so.
Aruba gets more total rainfall than several US cities as noted above.
Keep one thing in mind about this. Aruba's economy is very dependent on tourism (and oil, but mostly tourism). And Aruba's trump cards for attracting tourists are its beaches and weather.
So everyone who has an interest in promoting Aruba (people who live there, travel agents, books, etc) is going to stress the sunshine, low rainfall, and limited hurricane risk.
Many people would like tourists to believe Aruba gets NO rain.
Not the case, though.

I would not worry too much about rain ruining your vacation in Aruba. I have spoken to an endless number of tourists who frequent this island (and stand nothing to gain from promoting tourism) - and they almost ALL have never had a problem with rain or hurricanes.

I find it VERY hard to believe that LA gets less rain then Aruba. If it rains in Aruba, it is only for a very short time.
I assure you that if you go to Aruba in October, you will be very pleased!
That and September is one of my very FAVORITE time of year to visit.

I'm a little lost as to why people seem to refuse to believe Aruba gets substantial rain (particularly susan1).
The information is available in many sources.
Here are random sources from a google search about Aruba rainfall, average inches per year:

BTW----all of these are a lot higher than rainfall per year in Los Angeles.

And I'm a little lost why people like glimpton are so NEGATIVE and trying to scare people about their future vacations!!!!!! Tsk tsk, such pessimism!

Maybe because Aruba is the most repeatedly visited island in the Caribbean? I think if people were having their vacations rained on so often by ALL THAT RAIN - they would go someplace else?

I heard there was a lot of rain there last week. Remnants of the hurricane that was passing close by.
Usually the rain is not much and comes and goes quickly. In all my trips the most rain I saw was in April when it POURED for 3 straight hours...but then the sun came out and it was great

Girls, girls, girls - Aruba's motto is "one happy island".
We've been to Aruba twice in November which is supposed to be part of their "rainy season". We saw little rain both visits, and when it did it was usually early in the morning and cleared by 8:00 a.m. or so. I think any Caribbean destination is a crap shoot as far as weather goes. To LindafromNJ - go in October and have a lovely vacation!

I had so much fun reading all of your replies. I never thought I would get such a response. It was actually a toss up between Bermuda or Aruba. I read in Frommers that there was usually 6" of rain in October in Aruba. I am not sure what I am going to do now as I just checked airfare to Aruba and it seems awfully expensive to fly there from NJ. Anyway thanks to all of your responses.

WHY would anyone argue against statistics is beyond my comprehension. If there are 131 wet days in Aruba, then it does rain! And rain is a good thing, not a bad thing.

I've been to Aruba 3 times for a total of 30 nights, and I don't recall any rain. Perhaps it rained once at night, and I do remember one mostly cloudy day (because it messed up my underwater photos). My guess is that the reported rainfall, which someone above pointed out is more than some US cities, comes in big chunks when a tropical depression/storm is nearby.
