Divi Southwinds & Area

We're going to stay at the Divi in 3 weeks. Just wanted to know if anyone can tell me what is within walking distance? We love to walk, but of course we will get a car for part of our stay. Any recommendations on car rentals? Thanks for any suggestions!

Hi, you did not include the island that you are visiting in your e-mail but from the name I assume you are going to Barbados? If so then you are right in St Lawrence Gap area where there are lots of restaurants within walking distance. You can also take public transportation which is fun and interesting to ride. I found it to be safe (maybe a little scary at first) but no one will harm you my only complaint was that the music was very loud.

We did not rent a car, we took 1 scheduled tour to Bethany Beach and saw the green monkeys which we booked through Divi Southwinds and there was an island show across the street from Divi that included food, entertainment and I believe free drinks.

Side note: our first room at Divi was horrible, we complained and they moved us to another room the next day. You will need to cross the street to get to the beach but it is a beautiful white sand beach.

Hope you find this information helpful

Thanks for the information! Yes the island is Barbados. I logged in under Barbados and then I forgot to mention it again in my question. Could you tell me how long it has been since you stayed at the Divi? From what I have gathered, the rooms have been renovated in this past year - but I'm not sure if all of them have been completed. It sounds like it got in pretty bad shape before, but the new rooms are great. I hope we get a renovated room. Thanks for your input!

We went to Barbados in 2003 so I hope that they have finished updating all their rooms. I was a little surprise in that Divi Southwinds is a RCI timeshare property so I thought that it was safe to stay there.
They have 2 parts at Divi and the nicer part that faced the beach was RCI Gold Crown and the part on the other side was the regular timeshare (that's the part we stayed in).

It was not a complete dump but the lamp was broken in the livingroom, I had to ask for blankets to stuff in the bed because I could feel the springs in my back, and I had to purchase wash cloths/towels because they were paper thin.

The unit was so dark that I could not read even in the bathroom or in the bedroom. The kitchen area was very dated with ice cube trays and old appliances. The bellman was the one who told me that they had better rooms and that I should ask to be moved.

Once we moved, it was much better. We had breakfast included in our room rate but they were kind enough to allow us to eat lunch instead of breakfast. Our first night, we ate at Divi it was an island buffet with their national dishes (macaroni pie and flyimg fish) which was wonderful.

Would I stay at Divi again? Yes, we got a good rate and the location was perfect. The beach alone was worth it for us. I don't think that you will be disappointed, especially now that you have "the heads up"............

That hotel is right next door to Southern Palms and share Dover Beach. Beautiful beach. There are tons of restaurants up and down the street.

They have a little restaurant beach bar on the beach so you don't have to walk across the street for that.

You could stay at Southern Palms. That place is great and right on the beach!

Peace, Greenie
