Hello,
We're wanting to spend about one week at Christmas time (2012) in the Caribbean. We'd like to snorkel, sail, kayak, swim, beach, etc. We don't want to spend a fortune. We've never been to the Caribbean and have no idea where to start looking. We'd appreciate any helpful ideas. We live in Maryland, USA.
Thank you,
Kwingy

Christmas is the most expensive week in the Caribbean. You have to tell us what "not wanting to spend a fortune" actually means to YOU otherwise we have no idea what your budget actually is. Please give us a specific dollar amount you want to spend and let us know if that is just for accommodations or includes food, activities and/or airfare.
For what it is worth you'll find very good snorkeling on Grand Cayman, St. John, throughout much of the BVI's, Bonaire and many other islands.
Affordable for what you want on Christmas week you might be limited to Mexico. It also fits your criteria.
Thanks. We're looking now at Caye Caulker, Belize and the Tree Tops Guesthouse. Their premier suite at that time of year is about $150/night with taxes. That would be fine. Travel, food, and exploring would be extra and all would be in our budget. Do you know anything about Caye Caulker?
If no one answers, you might want to start another new post with "Caye Caulker/Belize" in the title. I know I've read posts from people who like it there, but they might not see your question under the "snorkeling" title
ps- and put it over on the Mexico/Central America form.
Thanks for redirecting us. It helped, and we're off to Caye Caulker, Belize. Many thanks again.
