We plan to take a day trip (by boat) to St. Barts from St. Martin. Can someone please give me suggestions for the day? Where should we visit the beach, have lunch, etc.? Should we just plan on using taxis for transportation? If we have lunch at one of the hotels, do they usually allow usage of their beach chairs? Thanks!

Your best bet is to hire a taxi for the day (negotiate the price when you arrive - it should not be too much more than the cost of a rental car). The driver will give you a tour of the island stopping at any place you'd like for as long as you'd like. He'll take you to the best beaches, sights, shops, wherever is your fancy. When you get hungry, tell him what you feel like eating (light lunch, gourmet meal, beach bar food, etc. - it's all available on the island) and how much you like to spend and he'll recommend a couple of places. At the end of the day, he'll drop you off at the dock in plenty of time for your trip back to SXM. It's a perfect way to see all the highlights of the island without any of the hassel of driving on unfamilar roads. Many of the beach front restaurants have beach chairs for their guests - here again your taxi driver will be pleased to take you to the appropriate places.
