We spent the first night of our vacation at Sunset Waters (11/16/2003). We were supposed to be here for 4 nights but the resort was not what we bargained for so we checked out early. This resort is listed as secluded, but that doesn't even begin to describe how far away from everything it really is.
Upon arriving at the resort we were afraid the rest of the island was going to be like Sunset Waters. The whole resort was in despirate need of repairs. This is not even close in comparison to the Marriott or the Hilton or Breezes.
The saving grace for the Sunset Waters is the staff. They are very nice and accomodating to all their guests. Even after we told the manager we were checking out they were still VERY nice to us and even offered to drive us to our new hotel.
Another word of advice on Curacao in general. Be VERY careful when signing a credit card transaction. I had several merchants on various occations give me receipts to sign that were incorrect. The car rental company tried to over charge us by more than $200.

I was at the Sunset Waters in October. I quickly got over the quality level of the resort (mostly because of the friendliness of the staff, as you mentioned). I wholeheartedly echo the advice to be careful. I have another post up where I describe how two of us had our credit card numbers pilfered at the same shop at the Sea Aquarium beach. Curacao is a nice island, but it seems like a crime problem is starting to crop up. Too bad, because it seems they've worked really hard to boost tourism.
