We are going to Curacao next month. I have heard mixed opinions about this island, some saying it's not as nice as it used to be. I'd apprciate any information regarding this island, such as shopping, transportation, currency [do they accept U.S. currency] and any must see sights. Any help or info or past experiences would be appreciated.

Curacao is a great place. Lots to do and see if you want, or not. It has a nice mix of cultures (E.g. South American, European, Indian). The downtown is great for shopping and spending some time, walking the streets, admiring the architecture, sampling a variety of cuisines. The beaches are smaller and more "cove-like" than on some other islands. US dollars are widely accepted. Depending on where you are staying you may want to rent a car to explore the island. Hook's Hut, Blues at the Avila Beach Hotel and Fort Nassau are my recommendations for restaurants but there are lots more. Some hotels offer shopping shuttles to downtown as well. We stayed at the Hilton and thought the location was great.
Hi LoisL
There's actually been quite alot of information posted here recently on Curacao.
If you select the Curacao forum rather than just the Caribbean, posts will pop up giving you lists of beaches, restaurants and sights to see.
We stayed at the Marriott, rented a car for a few days and really enjoyed the island last February, though I must say did not find much in Willemstaad of interest, except Kura Hulanda. Worthwhile for a quick visit though.
The beaches and snorkelling were wonderful, the geography unique, and the mix of cultures and languages interesting. We'd definitely visit again.
