Why would you want to go to this destination at such a sensitive time. Don't you realize elections at this time are almost unavoidable? You should really consider the Dominican Republic near the end of April. If the election is not a factor for Cuba then it shouldn't be for this destination. You must have friends who would travel with you to the wonderful isle. of the D.R.

I have not been to Cayo coco Resort, but at Cayo Largo which is a similar resort in Cuba. In Cayo Largo the beaches were excellent, the food and the service were acceptable. The prices were medium. 2 dollars for a beer e.g. You should ignore american warnings about not going to Cuba. That is hypocracy. USA is supporting much worse regimes than Fidel Castro's in Cuba! But the situation in Cuba is getting worse. Theft and begging is common, unfortunately. But there is no violence. Have a good holiday in Cuba!

Nils: one characteristic of Police States is that there are lots of police visible and invisible and so violence is repressed. In fact, everyone is repressed (except the tourists who bring cash of course and the repressers themselves). I suspect Norway had a lower crime rate when the Gestapo was in charge.

You call my remarks an attack. I would rather think of them as a pointed rebuttal and this is what freedom is all about. A clear sign of lack of an argument is when the one resorts to ad hominem remarks such as yours! Please criticize my remarks all you want not their source.

Oh, GOD! Here we go again! Ronald, can't you put a lid on it, and let other people end the arguement once in a while? After all, this IS a travel site, and if people wish to discuss Cuba as a destination without any sort of political overtones, LET THEM!

Helen: if you would read the discussions carefully you will see I never raised politics first; I merely responded to incorrect political statements or ad hominem arguments. You are unconsciously inconsistent I feel as you wish to allow others to freely express their views but would deny me the same privilege. Censorship may be the norm in Cuba but it is not in this forum to my knowledge.

Message boards are for people to share information and have fun doing it. This does not appear to be a fun thing, just a lot of childish bickering on who's right and who's wrong. Who cares. Hi,
We have not been to Cayo Coco but we have been to Brisas del Caribe in Varadero. We thought that the hotel & esp the beach were great, the food is pretty funky, though.. A friend of mine went to Cayo Coco and loved it. It is on a nature reserve so that it is very pretty and the beach is fantastic. So if you like a really natural setting without the highrises & litter, this is your place.

Hello,my wife and I were in Cayo Coco two years ago and liked it very much.The resort was only 450 rooms then,I believe it has doubled in size since.The beach is as white and soft as talcum powder.We had an upstairs room facing the sea and left our door open all night every night with no problems with bugs or intruders. We have been to Cuba three times and the food here was the best. The people have always been exceptionally friendly, no hassling with people trying to sell you things. You can go for a long walk down the beach at night without any worries. The resort itself is a replica of a small Spanish town, very well laid out.
