Hi Tim
I'll do my best - I'm relying on memory - I expect somebody will correct any errors.
MONEY
The U.S. dollar is the currency used by visitors. There is also a Cuban Peso which is equal to the $U.S. which is given in ATM's etc. Spend these in Cuba as they'te no good at home. Credit cards accepted at big shops & hotels etc. ATM - yes but not everywhere. Credit card mustn't be allied to a U.S. bank. No Amex. £US travellers cheques OK (but not Amex ones). Thomas Cook or Barclays Bank if you're a Brit.
PASSPORTS & VISA
Yes - you need a passport with at least 6 momths left to run on it. You need a visa (which you pay for). We got ours from the Cuban embassy in London but your TA may deal with it for you.
LAWS & SAFETY
Not much to say - there is hardly any crime. No drugs. Very safe for a foreign traveller as if a Cuban was to rob a tourist - the penalties would be draconian! Cubans very friendly - they NEED foreign tourist currency to survive as the economy is shot. Take small bills. One dollar is a lot to a Cuban and goes far when shopping!
Feel free to ask any specific questions. I was in Cuba in Oct 02 and did a trip report about what I found which you may find useful:

This site has plenty of cuban travellers who'll answer questions:
