We are first time travellers to Cuba. We are looking for good snorkelling, long walks, nice scenery and tranquility. Night life is not important to us. Would like a recommendation on where to stay, all inclusive or not.

Denise,
We have been to Cuba twice and while we loved it both times, the snorkelling is less than exciting. We took a caterman day-trip from Cayo Coco that wasn't bad but if you have snorkelled in the Caribbean or Central America, this will be disappointing. And, as far as snorkelling from the beaches, forget it. There is nothing there but the most gorgeous white powdery sand. Cuba has without question, the most beautiful beaches for walking and relaxing but there is nothing to see underwater but white sand.
However, Cayo Coco is gorgeous! I would highly recommend most of the resorts there and day trips to more historic and "urban" type areas are fairly inexpensive. It is quieter than places like Veradero and there are flocks and flocks of pink flamingos. Let me know if you would like specific questions answered and I'll do my best.
Hi Denise,
We went in April, and stayed at the brand new Breezes Costa Verde, about an hour outside Holguin.
It was beautiful, and top notch.
We did snorkel from the beach...just about 100 yrd offshore, there is lots of life to see, as there is a small shelf that drops off. The beach has a coral entry, so take aqua socks if you go. Very scenic, laid back..nightlife was however you wanted it to go...you could take a cab into town for something more lively, but we enjoyed the nightclub on site just fine. Besides, with 6 bars, including a swim up, 3 a la carte restaurants, and a major buffet, there was no reason to go looking for fun. We did to a day trip, via Canada 3000, "Fantastico", which indeed was, culminating with an afternoon at the aquarium, swimming with the dolphins...something I will remember forever.
Go. Enjoy, and take SPF 9000!!
