Cuba or DR for 3 single girls

We are 3 single girls in our early thirties who are planning a trip to DR or Cuba in mid-April. We're looking for a 4 or 5 star resort under $1000 each if possible. Have spoken to friends/family who have been to both islands, and recommended Cayo Coco (5 star), or Punta Canada (4+ star).

Our criteria is good food, lots of activities, and some nightlife...We want a relaxing holiday as well, but just not surrounded by couples and kids with nothing to do after 9pm. A good balance I guess...snorkelling if possible too!

Any suggestions? We're planning to book about 3 weeks before as that seems to be the best time for deals.
