Me, my husband, and 15-year-old son are planning on travelling to Cuba for the first time just after Christmas for about 10 days.
We would like to lay on a beach, snorkel, and see the sights in Havana and possbly Trinidad.
We don't need to stay in an All-Inclusive resort, but would like something with amenities in an upper-moderate to deluxe category. We are also thinking it might be nice to meet some of the locals by staying at least 1-2 nights in a casa particulares.
I was looking at the possibility of staying at Brisas in Ancon as the beach sounds nice there and it is close to Trinidad. However, it may be a little too quiet for a 15-year-old boy. So I was also looking at staying in Varadero then moving on for a couple of nights in each of Trinidad and Havana.
Too many options exist for this great location!
Am I on the right track with the choice of destinations....or is there someplace else you would recommend? Also, with the little I've checked on the weather in Dec/Jan it looks like it might not be as warm as we would like it (based on the last couple of Decembers). Has anyone been there Dec/Jan and was it usually warm enough to lay out on the beach?
Thanks for any help you can provide!
Thank you for any help and advice you can

Hi,
I am also interested in traveling to Cuba but can't view your blog for some reason. Is it possible that the link isn't correct? Would love to read your tips before asking any questions you may have answered there. Thanks!

Hi,
For Havana I recommend you check out WonderfulHavana.com, of which I am the editor. You will find lots of useful info there about the Cuban capital.
Trinidad is a wonderful place. I was there last March and went on a fantastic boat trip. We spent the day visiting remote islands, snorkelling on a coral reef and sunbathing on a beautiful catamaran. The whole day cost us just 50CUC each.
As for temperatures, I was on Tropicoco beach (25km west of Havana) on Christmas Day last year and the weather was perfect. It is generally very pleasantly warm in Cuba in December, although there are occasional cold spells as well. (The temperature in Trinidad, by the way, is usually up to 5 degrees Celsius higher than in Havana).
Kind regards
Eddie
