Couples or Round Hill

Never been to Jamaica. My girlfriend wants to do an all inclusive (she mentioned Sandals). I've never done an AI. This would be our first trip together.

I started looking around and looks like Couples would be a better fit for us. Found a price for 3 nights for $950 (no airfare) at Couples Ocho Rios.

But now I'm looking at Round Hill. Seems to be a nice place. Room rates $260 + $160 per person per night for all inclusive. Don't know if I'd benefit from $320/night for all inclusive though.

For us "mid-level income" types, what would a daily allowance be at Round Hill for food, drinks and fun?

My gf wants to lay out on a beach and get a tan, have some water activity, etc..

Pros & cons? Any advice on how to decide?

Round Hill which is located in Montego Bay is definately higher up the chain of classier resorts than Couples.

If you definately want to try Couples, then I would go with Couples Negril. At least there you will get a much nicer beach than the one in Ocho Rios...seems the beach is very important to you both. I'm not to sure that $950/3 nights is such a great deal especially for a resort that's not top notch! Nevertheless, I have only heard good things about Couples Negril.

Try a search for Round Hill and you will get some past reports on Round Hill. Only minus with Round Hill is that it's not on the beach.

I think Round Hill is probably the nicer resort. It's east of MoBay with not too much around it though, as far as taking a walk in the area.

I'd skip Ocho Rios too....very crowded and the beaches are not very nice.

Negril is great but if you plan to stay on the resort the whole time maybe not worth the trip - if you want to get out for nightlife and dinner and just walk the beach to shop and drink and so on, I'd choose Negril.

Not sure what andreaac meant by "Only minus with Round Hill is that it's not on the beach." True some of the villas are spread out on a hill but there is most definitely a beach at Round Hill.

As an alternative, you may want to take a look at the Jamaica Inn in Ocho Rios.

Have to agree with Patty on Jamaica Inn. By the way, there are 2 Jamaica Inn packages being offered on auction at luxurylink.com.
Each includes
5 nights in a deluxe oceanfront veranda suite
Roundtrip airport transfers
Planters Punch served on arrival and at the beach daily
Full English breakfast daily served in room or on the dining terrace
Afternoon tea for two each afternoon
Gourmet 5-course dinner nightly, on candlelit dining terrace under the stars, or on your own verandah in your room formally served by private waiter
Fruit basket in your room upon arrival
Nightly entertainment
Unlimited use of sunfish, kayak, snorkeling equipment, tennis and croquet
Nightly hors d'oeuvres
Reduced green fees at nearby golf course
Complimentary room service
All taxes and gratuities

Bidding ends on Monday the 21st, and the high bid right now is $1,130.
I've used luxurylink twice and can recommend them. No guarantee the price will stay as low as it is, but I think the last time Jamaica Inn had this deal on luxurylink, it ended up at about $1300 or so.

Choose whatever feels good to you, of course, but I guarantee that if you go to Couples Negril, you will not regret it. The Negril beach is to die for. The service is impeccable, the accomdation are more than comfortable, the swim up bar pool is a blast, the grounds are lush and tropical, rather romantic, the list of watersports and other activities is plentiful.

No way to lose on that.

The beach at Ocho Rios is lesser and the water rougher.

I know nothing about Round Hill

We spent the second half of our honeymoon last month at Couples Ocho Rios. We really liked it. We spent the first part in Negril (not at Couples, though.) I must say -- the beach in Negril was MUCH nicer. I would suggest you look into Couples Negril. Couples Ocho Rios was nice because there was a lot to do (i.e. Dunn's River Falls, horseback riding, etc.) But since you're only going to be there for 3 nights -- and you are most interested in lying on the beach and doing some water activities . . . Negril would be my first suggestion for you.

Good luck! I'm happy to answer questions about Couples Ocho Rios. We had a really nice time there!!
