Cost of a nice meal

We are thinking of going to Anguilla with our children and 4 grandkids. There will be a total of 9 people. We had heard the restaurants were expensive. Could anyone tell us the average cost of a meal for two in a nice restaurant? Thank you.

There is a wide price range at the restaurants & some of the "good" ones are reasonable. Also a lot depends on whether you add a bottle of wine or have drinks before dinner. We spend at least $200/couple at the "very nice" restaurants but we can eat at Tasty's or E's Oven or Zara's (all great!) for $65-75 (& we do have wine with dinner at those places, as well). You can get a burger at the Pumphouse for $8 & a large pizza at Corner Pizza for $12-14. Overall, there are a lot of high end restaurants that are expensive & the beach bar type places, that often have very good food, tend not to be open for dinner. Feeding 9 won't be cheap.

I have to agree with MaryD. You can find restaurants in all price ranges. It's difficult to give average prices since everyone's definition of a "nice" restaurant is different. For instance, Tasty's is a "nice" medium price restaurant where two people can have dinner for around $60 to $80 dollars. Altamer is a "nice" high priced restaurant where dinner for 2 can cost anywhere between $200 and $300. There are less expensive places and more expensive places.

Food costs are going to be high on Anguilla just as they are on most Caribbean islands and feeding 9 people will be costly. You can control you costs by eating at some less fancy restaurants. There are over 80 restaurants on Anguilla so you'll have plenty of places to choose from.

You might also consider Picante which is mexican but not the typical mexican you find in the states. The tequilla lime brick chicken ($14) is excellent so are the seafood enchiladas. Try the chocolate pudding for dessert. What drives up the cost of meals is the alcoholic drinks. Have a couple of drinks in the room where you stay to cut down on costs. A half chicken at E's Oven is $8--best chicken I've ever had. Not a lot of atmosphere at E's but very good food.

I'm going to suggest
Smokey's on the beach, a little more casual, but excellent chicken and ribs
Johno's casual, but with kids might be a good option
Uncle Ernies for lunch, under $10 and excellent chicken
