Is Christmas considered high season or low season?
I am thinking of going Xmas 2006 and would like to know what others think of going to St. Martin this time of year. Would especially like to know if the water is warm enough for swimming!

The week between Christmas and New Years is considered "Ultra" High Season - it's the most popular time on just about every island. Many (but not all) resorts have two week minimum stay requirements. You can expect to pay the highest room prices of the year during that time. Whichever resort you decide to pick book early as many are filled a year in advance.

The waters surrounding any of the islands from Puerto Rico south (including St. Martin) will be warm enough for swimming.

Consider going the week before Christmas. You will still run into high airfares for some markets, but for many resorts in the Caribbean you can still score off season rates.

Price will be MUCH higher during Christmas week. If you can go the week before or after Christmas, so for it.

Yep, the week of Christmas is perhaps the most expensive of the entire year. (When we had a rental property on the island, we charged four times as much as we normally did for that one week!)
The water will definitely be warm enough for swimming. The weather will be quite, quite warm, but don't rule out a slight chill at night. Decembers can sometimes be a little rainy.
