Chef on Turks and Caicos?
Hello,
I'll be renting a house with a few friends on Turks & Caicos and were looking to hire an inexpensive chef to provide meals. The ones I've contacted thus far run a little higher than we'd like to spend, so I thought I'd try the forums here to see if anyone might have any suggestions. Thanks!

The ones you contacted are the only ones. No such thing as inexpensive chef there- they all own exclusive restaurants and prices reflect that.
Every chef for hire has to have a work permit-at more than $10,000 annually just to be able to cook for you
And they have to have permits to come cook for you-- it's illegal otherwise!

Thanks for your responses. Becky is one of the people I've contacted. For fewer than 6 people, her dinners are $325 for the chef, plus 60$ pp for menu. For lunch, it's 250 for the chef and then 30pp for the menu. These include food provisions and cleanup. Light suppers are 250 chef / 30pp.

Upscale island-- govt requires work permits for persons to make money. Small island, majority of servers, etc are from Dominican Republic, Haiti, so they can't afford the annual work permits to be able to cook for you. (annual work permits take months to renew, and average $7000 - $10000 just for the right to work-- and can be taken away at a weeks notice)
The poverty you see on island is usually Haitians and Dominicans. And that's why you can't hire a local to cook for you
