Hellooo Steve from Canada..have you been able to find out the state of the island after the hurricane.
We were planning a week here at the end of November but I'm thinking that with the eye passing so close over this area (if not obliterating this tiny little island), the recovery operations after the hurricane will be very slow.
Have you heard anything? We have already revised our plans to go back to Akumal, but would still like to check out how Cayo Largo fared in the aftermath?

Hola Dos Gatos, mi amiga. ?Cómo es usted?
It's been a long time that I haven't heard from you. You are not alone in wondering the state of Cayo Largo after the hurricane season they have had.
Traditionally, the resorts on Cayo Largo are closed for September and October and re-open in November after the hurricane season. I know that is what they are planning this year as well. So with two months time, I'm pretty sure that things will be back to normal and most, in not all damage repaired.
You might try these sites for further info. It's quite a popluar topic on Debbie's site at:

and there's also Caribline at:

I'm headed back down to Havana (my favorite destination) for 17 days beginning on December 17th. Will be there for both Christmas and New Years. Can't wait to sip a Mojito at the Bodeguita and enjoy a fresh Cohiba while catching a few rays. Really need the time to de-pressurise and recharge the batteries.
Take care and keep in touch.

Hola Steve! Muy bien gracias, y usted?
Well, was busy during the last travel season doing that wedding thing at Iberostar Quetzal/Tucan in Mexico. We had an absolute blast, and we could not have picked a better spot to have the party, er I mean make the final commitment. But you know, it ain't much of a 'vacation' to depressurize/recharge batteries when you're the bride to be and heaped with worries - am I going to look silly in white at my age (didn't at all), will our guests like the resort we picked out (loved it), will all go well (went fabulously, and all those other niggly things that we women tend to worry needlessly about.
So this year, we're really looking forward to going back to a real vacation again, no worries, be happy!
Will check out those sites though. Also found a site at www.cayolargo.net that's pretty good - run by a couple out of Quebec..just can't figure out how to get on the message board and ask on the state of the island as the board is all in French.
later, eh.
