Cayman Islands/Bahamas Vacation or Other Suggestions
My husband and I will be traveling to somewhere in the Caribbean in June for our anniversary. We want to go somewhere close, hopefully a direct flight from Atlanta or Charlotte. We also want a place with beautiful beaches and want to stay directly on the beach. We have been looking at the Bahamas and Cayman Islands. We want to go somewhere very nice with lots of amenities and stuff to do while we are there. We will not be taking our child, so we'd also like to be able to go to nice restaurants and enjoy some nightlife as well. We are not completely sold on the two places that I mentioned; we are open to any suggestions that could be given. Bottom line: We'd like to stay at a nice resort in the Caribbean and not spend too too much money. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated!

I think you would really prefer GC over the Bahamas. I just haven't heard very many nice things about them. We've been to Paradise Island and Nassau a couple of times and it just didn't do much for us. GC has the ever so lovely 7 mile beach and tons of great restaurants to experience. Perfect for a couple on a get-away.

We were trying to decide between Grand Cayman, Bahamas, Aruba & St. John. Finally picked Grand Cayman for it fit our needs best. We were using Starwood pts & so would have been at Westin at any location. That one seemed to be best for location, not having to rent car to drive to great beaches, walk to dinner along beach, great snorkeling, good food. It does sound pricier than other choices but this trip is without our kiddies too so we can afford to spend a little more since it is just the 2 of us. We go in 2 weeks & I"ll report back.

Oh, should have mentioned that we have been to St John before & if money weren't an object & we weren't limited to Westins, we would have gone back to Caneel Bay on St. John in a heart beat. 7 private perfect beaches at the hotel & easy to take taxi into town for dinner, shopping etc. Check out summer rates, there may be some great deals to be had.

Grand Cayman definitely over the Bahamas. The Bahamas are great when you get into the Out Island, Eluthera, or Bimina but GBI is just meh.
Anguilla has the most beautiful beaches and fantastic resorts.

My husband and I were in Grand Cayman last August. We had a wonderful time. Stayed at the Westin Casuarina. It is a beautiful hotel. The beach was fantastic as was the pool. We were upgraded to an ocean/pool view room on the third floor. Make sure you go swim with the stingrays. We would not have believed it if we wouldn't have seen for ourselves. Go on a dinner cruise booked through Red Sail Sports. Make sure you try Ragazzi or something like that. It was wonderful. Copper something was good also. We walked a lot at night and felt very safe. Went to Georgetown one day. It was ok.
