Cayman Island Report

Yesterday, we got back from Grand Cayman. I'm just going to give a quick report. We stayed at Villas of the Galleon, nice 2bed/2 bth condo oceanfront. We were very close to the Ritz, but the construction didn't bother us. (toward the end of our stay, it did become a bit noisy) If you stay there, request a condo closer to the Weston.

Arrived Sat, rented a Hondo Civic from Avis. Got a decent price and the car was very clean and Avis was ready for us upon arriving. Ate at Ferdinands at the Weston. Good but very $$$$.

Sunday- hung out at the beach and swam out about 200 yards and snorkeled. Rented Kayaks from the Weston. Had dinner at the Wharf, was OK, definitely not my favorite restaurant for the money.

Monday- went to Rum Point. It's really fun there, especially good for kids, too. Snorkeling was good and we rented floats for $5. Caution, I greased my son up good with lotion, but didn't do the top of his head, and needless to say, he got sunburned there. For dinner, we brought in from Chicken, Chicken. Was OK.

Tues- we were really tired and my son didn't want to spend time in the sun, so we drove around and explored. Georgetown was a zoo, with all the people from the cruiseships, so didn't spend much time there. Checked out the turtle farm, was pretty cool and got some great pictures. Went to Hell, nothing great. had dinner at the Bed, was good.

Wed- had cloudy and windy weather, so we went into Georgetown cause the ships didn't port there due to choppy waters. Then we drove around and explored some more. Had dinner at the Reef Grille. The food was excellent.

Thursday- went for a resort dive with Ocean Frontiers. are more towards the eastern part of the island, but I highly recommend them. For dinner, we cooked in.

Friday0 went snorkeling with Bob Soto's. (originally we booked with Dexter for Wed, but he had to cancel due to bad weather and was booked up for fri) The water was still quite choppy where we snorkeled, but it was fun. They took us to Coral Gardens, Barrier reef and stingray city. Word of caution, some of the other grups were packed with people.

Ask how many they take out on the ship. Had dinner at Mezza, we really enjoyed it.

Sat-Hung out at the beach all day. My husband and son rented waverunners from the Weston. I decided to take a beach walk to the Hyatt. Thank goodness we didn't stay there. So many people with beach chairs lined up at the beach. Definitely not for me. The Hyatt was just too massive in my opinion.

For our last night, we ate dinner at Papagallo's. The best meal by far.

Overall, we had a great time and was pleased with our choice of Villas of Galleon. Originally, we were going to stay at north seven mile beach, but I'm glad we didn;t beacause it's just too quiet. Being next door to the Weston was a big plus for
us, for we could just go there for a drink, or to rent kayaks, waverunners, etc.

Hi Meta. Welcome back!

So how did you like VOG? Was your condo nice?

I'm glad you hit Reef Grill...wasn't it good? Did you make it to Smuggler's Cove? That was my other favorite.

Choppy water is the only bad thing about going to the Caribbean in winter...

To CB: Thanks for the spell check. However I think we all know what she meant. To meta: Did you go to string ray city and I am surprised about your dinig experience at the Wharf. We had great food there. What was wrong this time?

Sandy, we never made it to Barefoot Man. Jacketwatch, we did go to StingRay City and it was really cool. Definitelt worth seeing. I really enjoyed being able to stand up and touch the stingrays, but my son was quite intimidated by them. I think he just didn't like the feel of them brushing past him.

I know people have asked about renting a car. I definitely am glad we did, for every day we used it. It gave us a lot of freedom and were able to come and go as we please.
