My sister and I are heading to Cuba on April 7 for a week (wish it could be more). For the price we've booked a package to Cameleon Villas Jibacoa, although our main interest is to spend some time in la Habana. We will probably spend a few nights at the resort, at most, and a few nights in Havana. We also plan to take a NJT suitcase along with us to drop of in a nearby town or in Havana.
We're young at heart types in our early 50's. My sister is single and I am married, with a couple of teenage boys. We are both fairly adventurous....not sit-for-a-week at-an-AI type of people if we have a chance to explore. Looking for interaction with the Cuban people and enjoying the music, architecture, etc.
Any suggestions for a casa particular in Havana that we could stay at for 2 or 3 nights? Is it too much a haul and/or worth it to take the train to Pinar del Rio and stay over for a night?
Any input would be appreciated!
Are any of you going to be at CVJ or in Havana that week?

The person who you really want to contact is Pototo, a very good friend of mine in Havana. He works independently providing Tourist Services and has very good contacts with many Casa Particulars (Bed & Breakfast) type accommodations in Cuba. He can also arrange a guide if you want to get out and about without being on one of the big hotel bus tours. Much more personal and you'll see a great deal more.
I spent some really great time with Pototo last month and here's his contact info. Send him and email and just say Steve from Canada recommended him.
