Casa de Campo/DR or Hyatt in Aruba

Traveling at the end of January with my husband and 1 year old son. Having trouble choosing between Casa de Campo in the Domincan Republic or the Hyatt Regency in Aruba. At Casa de Campo we would be staying in a Villa. Any ideas on which resort would be better suited for a family with a 1 year old?

I was in Aruba in October and stayed at the Radisson. The last day we were there we went over the see the Hyatt. It was really nice. I will be staying there on our next trip. Was in the DR two years ago and stayed in Punta Cana. I hear that the beach is not so great at Casa de Campo but if you are golfers the golf is supposed to be great. Sorry I can be more help.

The Hyatt is beautiful and you will get an ocean view, which you may not get at Casa De Campo. However, in my opinion it is very difficult staying in a regular hotel room with a 1 year old so if I had the choice between a reg. hotel room in Aruba or a villa in DR, I would go with the villa. That being said, Aruba is a great family destination, clean, safe, good medical facilities -- we are taking our two children there next year.

Casa de Campo is a lovely destination with luxury accomodations, good service and a top resort. The Hyatt is the typical hotel room and Aruba is no more Caribbean than Miami Beach except for the great beach. You even get to line up for the beach chairs! No comparison. Casa de Campo is a luxury property with service to match.

I went to Casa de Campo in November, 99, the weather was great and the golf, "teeth of the dog" is to die for. My concern is that you will need a golf cart to travel around the resort. The villas were ok. If you do go to Casa, I strongly suggest that you fly into LaRomana which is locted just outside the resort. I personally would not recommend the drive from Santa Domingo to La Romana, especially if you have a little one....hope this helps

We were "treated" to a few days at Casa de Campo a few years ago, when my husband spoke at a meeting there. We absolutely hated it, and would never go back. The place is extremely sterile and snooty, with golf and Oscar de la Renta, and is surrounded by a wall or fence and armed guards. Outside the wall is the most abject poverty you have ever seen. I guess they need the guards to keep the natives out of the elitist area. There is a fake, man-made "old ruin" you can go to. We couldn't wait to get out of there.
