Carriacou and Grenada

My husband and I are considering Grenada with several days in Carriacou. Has anyone stayed at
Bayleau Cottages on that island? We'd appreciate any information anyone has on places to stay there, as well as in the Grenada mainland. We're also looking at Twelve Degrees North, La Sargresse and Flamboyant. Any suggestions? Thanks so much

Hi there!!

I am having a heck of a time trying to figure out my Grenada vacation as well- however I can tell you from lots of experience that Grenada (IMHO) is worth every penny more than any other island!!

I do ask you though... why are you looking at cottages? If it is just you and your husband would you consider a resort? My parents just returned from what used to be the Ramada Renaissance (off the top of my head can't remember the new name) they said it was truly decadent with waterfalls and still one fo the best spots on the beach.

Otherwise I have come up with Gem, L'Ance Aux Epines, Coyaba, Blue Horizons and True Blue. We (my large family and I) are considering Flamboyant but we want a full kitchen. Check out the website www.wheretostay.com they can be a little rough in their summation but it could be helpful in narrowing it down for you...

Thanks for your reply. I hope you figure your vacation out. We're planning a split with part of the time on Granada and part of the time on Carriacou. We're not into the "decadent" way of life. We really like to get more of a flavor of the island. We can do Ramada anywhere! But thanks for the input.

We stayed at Mariposa last year and really enjoyed it. It's down the hill from Flamboyant and much more laid back. It overlooks Morne Rouge bay and has a pool perched over the bay. The food wasn't great but Grenada has good places to eat so we never went hungry! Mariposa does not have kitchens but the adjoining property, Mahogany, does. Also, down the hill by the beach is the Gem. I believe all the units there have kitchens. There is a great bulletin board on the Grenada Explorer website that is chock full of information about both islands (www.grenadaexplorer.com). Hope this helps!

We can't help you with Grenada, but spent two fabulous weeks in Carriacou earlier this year.

Didn't stay at Bayaleau, but know where it is.

The first thing to say is that there is nothing resembling a resort on Carriacou. We loved it, but you really do need to make sure that it's for you. Some points:
- if you want to eat at a restaurant in the evening, you generally have to book and chose what you will eat during the day. And there won't be much choice.
- the food is simple and fresh
- there's no night life
- everyone is incredibly friendly - no sign of tourist rip offs here
- the beaches are great, the snorkelling OK but not brilliant unless you take a boat to Sandy Island

We felt that Bayaleau was on the 'wrong' side of the island for us. It was in the East and all the good beaches were in the west. We rented a villa from Down Island - not prohibitively expensive and their service was great. www.islandvillas.com

If you want any more info, just let us know.
