Caribbean weather
I've lurked on this board for some time now, and have gathered TONS of great info! I'm just curious about the weather, during our planned honeymoon. We're looking to travel May 10-16, 2004, and are still deciding between St. John (Caneel Bay), Playa Del Carmen (RIU Palace) or Isla Mujeres (Hotel Nabalam). May seems to be 'off-season' for all those location, and I'm wondering if the weather is the main reason? Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Also, I've read that the plumbing for hotels along the Mexican Coast, specifically Isla Mujeres, is not the greatest! And that toilet paper should not be flushed. Is this true along the entire coast (Playa as well)? What about St. John?!

High season is typically late November to April because hurricane risk is nil and travellers from north of the Caribbean want the sunshine and warmth.
Shoulder season is late April to early June in many places, and is a great time to travel to the Caribbean IMO. Rates are lower, no hurricane risk, resorts are quieter since peak season is past.
I don't think poor weather is a part of the equation in May.

Like a previous poster mentioned, May should bring great weather in the Carribean. I think it's considered off season mainly because most people prefer to travel to the Carribean during the winter (when the weather's bad in many parts of the country) and through Spring Break.
I stayed at the RIU Palace in PDC last March and loved it. There were quite a few families with kids, but in May I think it would be a great spot for a very romantic honeymoon.
