My fiancee and I are looking for suggestions on where to go in the Caribbean. We stayed in Condado/Old San Juan last year and we absolutely loved it. We loved the mixture of history/cultural activities with the beach. We could spend a day at the beach with a nice dinner and a walk around Old San Juan. We also loved just spending time in around Old San Juan with the forts, etc...
Can anyone suggest anything similar? We really would like to be pampered but also have the cultural/historical activities available as well.
Thank you for your time.

What does Barbados and St. Thomas have to offer for cultural activities?
Weve been considering St. Martin, and Curacao so far.
Thanks.
Anybody?
Thanks
Mayan Riveria of Mexico - Mayan Ruins of Chichen Itza, Tulum, Coba and some smaller ruins. Explore centoes and the caves of Ak Tun Chin.
St. John, USVI - explore the Ruins at Annaberg Plantation
Barbados - Haven't been yet, but lots of things to see and do. Check out this site for info: http://www.glorytours.org/
Curacao - Didn't find much cultural activities there. Take a full day city tour and you'll see some of their history, but it's mainly a destination for snorkeling and diving.
St. Lucia - see planations, volcanos, the pitons and quaint villages
Jamaica - Tour Rose Hall planation, waterfalls, jungle areas, Black River
Haven't been to St. Martin and have no desire to go there, so don't know anything about it.
We just travelled to St Maarten in August. We've been to many islands and it's personally our least favorite. We loved the resort and found the island not very clean. There are casinos and boat trips etc however we didn't find it as pleasurable when leaving the resort as many other islands. We spontaneously booked a night on Anguilla and truly loved it. It's a short ferry ride away.
We will definitely return there!
Grenada seems to be a good option as it offers all the things that you are looking for. It is very rich in history and culture, has a range of activities, as well as a range of fine hotels and restaurants. Most of the hotels are located on or close to the famous Grand Anse Beach, which is a 2-mile stretch of beautiful white sand beach - this location is within walking distance to restaurants, banks, shops, supermarkets and the local bus route. It is also famous for the 3 R's - rest, romance and relaxation! You would absolutely love it.
I would look at three islands:
Curacao - The island has its famous liqueur. Decorative buildings. The church with the cannonball stuck in the wall. The boats that form the floating market from Venezula. The shops and restaurants along the waterfont used to be fortresses. The pontoon bridge. And, it still has a feeling of not really being discovered yet.
Barbados - There are buildings that are built from the pink and white coral. Gothic churches. St Nicholas Abbey. The sugar plantation.
Jamaica - Has it's own unique music and dialect that has evolved over the years. It started out as a very peaceful island until slaves started being imported from Africa. Pirates included Calico Jack, Blackbeard and Captain Morgan. This is an island that has had a lot of pain. Now, of course, tourism is big. Rose Hall, 7 mile beach, jerk, ziplining over the YS falls, Ric's cafe. Lots to do there.
Thank you all for the suggestions!
Any hotels on these islands you would suggest?
We booked the Marriott in Curacao for 6 nights. Thanks again.
