After trying nearly all of them over the years, I have used Best Deal Car Rental several times a year for a few years now and have been very satisfied. They are located at the airport and have an online booking service, although I advise calling any car rental agency on SXM in advance to confirm.

We tried a new company last year, and I must say...we're hooked! They're called 'Leisure Car Rental St. Maarten' It's good to know some companies still put customer service as their number one priority. Try them out. Tel:011(599) 581 8577. Email: [email protected]. Site: www.leisurecarrentalsxm.com

We used Kenny's car rental twice. His company is local and he was very reliable. His cars were much better than the car we got when we used Avis our first year. Do a search for Kenny's car rental St Martin and I'm sure you'll find it.

When I first came to live on the island, I rented for 6 months from Best Deal Car Rental, and was fully satisfied.
I strongly suggest (in spite of what Sarah James says above) that if you are considering Dollar/Thrifty that you take a look at the posts on the St Maarten / St Martin thread here relating to that company first !
There are plenty of choices on the island, and most are pretty reliable - it's a competetive market for the local based operations - and certainly I would reccomend renting from one of them rather than from the franchise of a big international operator.

It does seem that Rena_AyeshaAmjad is rather overdoing it with FOUR consecutive glowing recommendations for Dollar/Thrifty Car Rental, which is an outfit well known on this island for their highly questionable activities !
I note that, like carltonjohn23, she has only just become a Fodors member, and it really does make one wonder whether some people are making these highly positive posts about Dollar/Thrifty in order to combat the dreadful tales of woe, appearing elswhere in this forum, posted by persons who have suffered at the hands of the operators of this 'rogue franchise', and maybe that they are doing so at the behest of their friends or relatives in some way involved with the operation.
I STRONGLY suggest that before taking their spurious advice to rent from a franchise which is well known here for it's rip off tactics - which could even be deemed fraudulant - anyone should take a hard look at the numerous posts in another thread under the heading of Dollar/Thrifty Car Rental, placed by persons who have already suffered at the hands of these scam artists.

Jaya - you and I share the same view about Rena (and I am also suspicious of carltonjohn23).
Both have only just registered with Fodors (as has the franchise holder of Dollar/Thrifty, Mr.McSood - see HIS posting under the heading Beware Dollar/Thrifty Car Rental).
It seems that someone has alerted Mr.McSood to the highly adverse comments to be found here - and even more so in the other thread mentioned above - and some 'damage control' is taking place by him personally, and by other individuals who it might appear could have some connection with the outfit.
