Car rental co. from San Juan to Fajardo
Hi there folks! I haven't been able to find any information on a car rental company that will allow me to pick up in San Juan and drop off in Fajardo. Any info you can provide me with is greatly appreciated.

It may be better to hire a car service for that leg. I can't remember who we used but they were wonderful. Our trip was delayed many hours and we arrived in the middle of the night. The car service people were right there to pick us up and they were informative and charming.

Thanks for your reply tbelgian! We will probably do as you suggested when our cruise is over to get to Vieques. But,before the cruise we plan on heading to the Luquillo beach area for a few days. We will want to have the car until we head to Culebra for a few days. I'm having a heck of a time finding info on car rental agencies that have facilities both in San Juan and the Fajardo area. Hope someone can help me out with this!

IMO (I lived in the area for years), I think that your best bet will be to Thrifty Car Rental... pick-up @ the terminal in the airport in SJ and return @ airport in Fajardo... Then, just take a taxi from the airport... I don't know how much will be the taxi ride... Their phone # at SJ is 787 253 2525. Let me know if u need any other info...

ggcoralysp,
Thank you so much for taking the time to provide me with this info.
Is the airport close to where we will be catching the ferry?
Also, I'm a newbie and don't chat often...what does IMO (from the beginning of your original reply) mean?
Thanks again!

Spicyging,
IMO-in my opinion
What are you planning to do? Do you want to rent a car from the airport? Or, are you getting to PR by cruise? If you can tell me I might be able to help you better because Carolina (the city where the airport is actually located at) and Old San Juan (where the cruise port is) are kinda far away. Well, I shouldn't say far! but the are lots of traffic jams in that route and a taxi can charge you quite some money for the ride. So, let me know where you will arrive PR and how will you get to Culebra?
Do you know that there is a small airplane (those 6 or 8 passengers airplane) that can take you to Culebra for a minimal fee. I think it was like $30 p/p which IMO is better because teh lines to buy the tickets are awful. I once waited on the line from before 8am till like 10am just for them to tell me that they were sold out and that the next ferry will be at 3pm. The same thing happened to my sister couple of weeks ago and she ended up on the Balneario (beach near the area). I was furious so was my sister! Hahaha
Anyway, let me know what your plans are and I might be able to give you better ideas!

ggcoralysp,
You are absolutely wonderful to offer so much help!!!
Here are our plans thus far:
Arrive in SJ Friday am
Rent car, drive to east PR
Stay @ Luquillo Sunrise 3 nights
While in the area, we are planning on checking out the rain forest, hanging out on Luquillo beach and doing the Canyoning tour (ever done that?)through Adventuras. Looks so fun and scary!!! Any other recommendations for that area?
Monday: turn car in and take the ferry over to Culebra (hubby does NOT like small planes). Can we purchase tickets a couple days in advance? Staying on Culebra for 2 nights at Casa Ensenada...can't wait for those beautiful beaches.
Wed: This is where it gets a bit sketchy...trying to convince my hubby to take a plane from Culebra to SJ. This is the day of our 20th Anniversary (I'm only 37, soon to be 38, so to be married this long is pretty crazy!!!) Staying at the Intercontinental. Looking to whoop it up big time...not sure what to do yet!
Thurs: Our kids (19 & 15 @ time of travel) join us in PR this AM.
Other than the beach & Old San Juan we don't really have anything planned for the couple days here.
Sat-Sat: Royal Carribean cruise to tour the Southern Caribbean.
Sat-Mon: Somehow get over to Vieques staying at Casa de Amistad...REALLY looking forward to these beaches.
Mon:Head back to SJ, might stay at the Best Western at the airport for our Tues morning flight back home.
We love to snorkel, swim, body surf, hike, explore, eat and PARTY! We are more than likely going to get certified for diving before we go.
So, what do you think? Any suggestions and/or recommendations? Your help is once again greatly appreciated!
Have a wonderful day!

We were in PR in October. We arrived in San Juan on Saturday, rented a car through Hertz via Hotwire ($190 for the week) and drove to Luquillo Sunrise where we stayed for three nights. Then we drove to Fajardo, left our car in one of the secured lots for $5 per day, and took the ferry to Vieques for 2 nights. We rented a jeep on the island. We picked up our car when we returned, drove to San Juan and spent two nights there before returning our car to the airport.
This worked out great for us -- you will want a car at Luquillo Sunrise. We walked along the beach to get to the kioskos, but it took us about 45 minutes each way. There are no other places that are easy to walk to. You'll also need a car to get to the rain forest.
Hope this helps, if you have any other questions, let me know!

You can't buy Culebra ferry tickets in advance. If it were me, I'd heed the advice the other poster gave you to fly. Rent your car in San Juan and drop it off at the San Juan airport. You're going to need a jeep or car in Culebra as well because you have to drive to get to the best beaches (and you need to reserve that in advance as cars almost always sell out there).
