Car rental and getting to downtown Nassau from Atlantis

Don't seem to be any car rentals available on Paradise Island when we are there but we can pick up in downtown Nassau. How far is that from Atlantis and what's the best way to get there other than cab?

Atlantis is not far from downtown Nassau, it is a fairly short drive over a bridge to the hotel. We took a taxi [from the airport] and it was a quick ride to Atlantis from airport.

Hope this helps...

You can get the ferry to Nassau just a couple blocks from the Atlantis.

WHY do you you want a car in Nassau? There is too much traffic, no place to park and quite honestly no where to go that you would want to see, outside of the tourist areas.

Do yourself a favor and just take a taxi from the airport to ATlantis. There are jitneys all over the island that run all day long and charge $1pp per ride.

From Atlantis you can take a water taxi over to downtown Nassau and see the sites and do some shopping.

A car will be more of a hassle than any convenience.

We were just going to pick the car up in Nassau and then drive around the island a bit - maybe stop off for lunch and another beach and then dinner in Nassau. Would that warrant a car or is there very little to do outside of Nassau?

Quite honestly there is nothing outside of Nassau that would be of much interest to you. YOu can easily use the jitney (bus) to go out to Cable Beach, the jitney run all day, and the water taxi back and forth from PI and yes there are several good restuarants downtown Nassau which is small enough that a car is not necessary and more of a hassle than a help.

Don't bother with a car.

We rent a car when we are staying on the other side of the island. We also take the bus in. We had a bad experience with locals driving into us in an isolated area (two cars, presumably so they could rob us). Fortunately my husband was smart enough to keep driving. Anyway, no real need to have a car to get from town to Atlantis.

We love renting a car when we go to Nassau. There are some very nice spots on the West End and South end that are very peaceful -- nice to get away from the hussle. Even having a car on Paradise Island is helpful because you can drive around. Travellers Rest is a great restaurant on the West side of the island. Love Beach is also nice. These are places you wouldn't see if you didn't rent a car. In fact, if I had never rented a car in Nassau I don't think I would have enjoyed it so much.
