Cap Jaluca or Four Seasons Nevis

We are considering both properties for a 7-night honeymoon the first week in Dec. Can anyone help compare both properties? What about meal plans at the resorts? We are looking for great service, luxury rooms/resort and relaxation. If we decided to venture out 1 or 2 nights for a little nightlife- does either island provide for this? Cap Jaluca looks to have the more reasonable prices - What do you think

I'm surprised you haven't gotten any replies to your questions so I'll start with a few comments.

First off, there is a big difference between the island of Anguilla vs. Nevis. So your first decision should probably be what type of island experience are you seeking (by the way, both are rather laid back and uncrowded). Anguilla is flat, arid, scrubby and rather unattractive but it boast 35 fantastic white sand beaches surrounded by bright turquoise blue waters. The island also has over 80 restaurants some of which are among the best in the Caribbean. Nevis on the other hand is mountainous with lush rain forests and lots of natural vegetation and mostly darker sand palm tree lined beaches surrounded by dark blue waters. The island has an assortment of restaurants but not near as many as on Anguilla (several are quite good but, in truth, I would describe them as being among the best in the Caribbean.

As for the resorts themselves, both are considered up-scale but 4S is much more service oriented. It has a full service spa, golf course, tennis courts, two pools, well appointed rooms. CJ has nice but uninspired rooms. When I was there last the rooms looked a little "tired". Service was fine but no where near as pamparing as at 4S. The reason CJ is less expensive than 4S is because they don't have the same guest to staff ratio. If you check out the web-sites for both resorts you'll get a good feel for the differences between the two. I doubt you'd be disappointed with either place. Personally, I'd choose the island over the resort.

I don't do meal plans as I enjoy the ability to dine around the islands I visit. Quite honestly I'd tire of eating in the same restaurant every night. My experience has shown that you don't really save any significant money by opting for a meal plan but then again that's my preference. Your take on that might be very different.

Good luch with your planning.

I would recommend Nevis.

Nevis is a beautiful quiet, laid back unspoilt island. Not a lot of night life in the evening.

A website you might enjoy is www.discover-stkitts-nevis-beaches.com

I would recommend not getting a meal plan. Variety of restaurants on the island to choose from. Sunshines Beach Bar & Restaurant next to the 4 Seasons, Coconut Grove a restaurant that recently opened, Bananas Bistro, Miss Junes, Montpelier, and Golden Rock.

A hotel I would recommend in Nevis is Nisbett Plantation. Very romantic setting, excellent service, gorgeous rooms, five star meals and so much more. Visit www.nisbetplantation.com

www.nevisisland.com is another website you might find helpful.

You can also take a day trip to sister island of St. Kitts and drive around the island and visit Brimstone Hill Fortress or visit one of the many beautiful beaches.

Nevis is a gorgeous island but 4S service left much to be desired when we went last spring. There was a big company convention there so most of the water kayaks and water stuff was taken so other guests could not use them.

The beach service was so bad that we would just go get our own drinks.

The food was average at best and they only had 1 or 2 restaurants even open each night. The service at the restaurants was not the greatest either.

We were eating one night at their outdoor cafe type restaurant (it had plastic chairs, really casual) and I politely asked if I could use their Off bug spray (I saw it on their counter) and the waitress acted like I asked for something special, it was strange.

We stayed there 7 nights and our last night we were so sick of having to eat at the same 2 restaurants so we ordered room service.

Rooms are average, our first room the a/c broke so had to switch to another room.

The spa was really nice, I loved the spa and it has wonderful views.

The OP took went on their honeymoon over 4 years ago!

JenniferW: The Four Seasons Nevis has been closed since October 2008 from damage caused by Hurricane Omar. It will reopen when rebuilding is complete--perhaps in the Fall of 2010.

No wait I am sorry it was May 2008 when we stayed at Four Seasons Nevis. April 2007 was Jamaica.
