Can you help with any advice on the Bahamas

My friend and I are considering options for late March early April to travel to southern Florida and now she has mentioned the Bahamas instead.

Any general type of advice - like which part of the island is best to stay, which part to avoid. She found an $89/night accommodation on the beach - but not sure this would be primo real estate or not for that price.
