We are looking to take our Honeymoon on one of the BVI's. We are thinking that we will go with the Virgin Gorda. Our trip would be in February. Our travel agent has suggested the Bitter End Yacht Club (BEYC). We also thought about Biras Creek and Little Dixie Bay. Any recommendations here? We are not that concerned with staying at a 5 star resort, more of getting away and experiencing the true Caribbean in a remote area. We are going to the BVI to get away from the hustle and bustle and figure if we want we can take a day trip to a much busier Island of the American Virgin Islands. We would like to have several options of activities, snorkeling, boat rides, laying by the beach, get away from the crowds, good food, ect...any other suggestion for various activities to do while we are there would be great. It would be nice to have a somewhat secluded experience. Budget is not as much of an issue as experiencing the true Caribbean. Also not sure if the water temp in Feb would be an issue at the BVI's. I guess I could be open to other Islands but looking for some folks who have had experience with the BVI's as well as other spots in the Caribbean. Also looking for folks who have stayed at multiple resorts on the BVI. Thanks for any feedback you may provide.

You can't go wrong with either Bitter End or Biras Creek, but for an even more intimate stay, I would look into Mango Bay - you can stay at a private waterfront condo- with your own private beach. Very remote if you are looking to get away from the hustle and have privacy.

I would also check out Guana Island, guana.com. I haven't stayed there, but it seems like a get away from it all BVI experience.

Second the thought of Mango Bay- we were there in April and loved it- hardly saw a soul all week so we really felt like we had the place to ourselves and it felt more like a private beach rather than one at a hotel or resort. You must have a car/jeep but then you have plenty of options for dining within 15 minutes or less. Congratulations and have a wonderful trip- VG is an enchanting place.

I have stayed at Little Dix Bay several times and it is gorgeous. All rooms are buildt around a half mile cresent beach and have a beautiful view. My favorite room, especially for a honeymoon is a beachfront cottage. Surrounded by beautiful landscaped tropical garden and just steps from the beach, it is very private and feel like a slice of paradise. The room is very spacious, comfortable with a beautiful decor. Bathroom has an outdoor shower and double vanities.

They have complimentary boatdrops to a large number of beaches. You can request one where you will be the only ones there, request a delicious lunch for two...just perfect.

In addition, there are many daytrips available. I did one to Anagada Island, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Spring Bay picnic was very nice. Guests were boated to Spring Bay where huge beach umbrellas were provided along a seawaer inlet pond with a white sand beach where you could swim into the sea and snorkle aroung huge partially underwater boulders.9It is also adjacent to the Bathes for further exploration. A tasty grilled lunch is prepared as you are treated to the sounds of live steel band music. It was a fun, fun time.

TO me it depends on whether you want a resort experience or a more self-sufficient experience. Depending on the time of year, both Little Dix and BEYC may have a lot of children, as they're both family friendly. Biras doesn't allow young children at their resort. For me personally, that's strong plus. I vacationed once at a resort that claimed it catered equally to families as to romantic couples (Kona Village Resort on the Big Island in Hawai'i), and while it certainly wasn't awful, the small fry running around just weren't my cup of tea.

So if you want a resort, I'd suggest Biras for a honeymoon.

But if you want a more self-sufficient vacation with more privacy, I'd suggest a villa. The Mahoe Bay villas are lovely and more upscale, the Mango Bay condos are still quite comfortable, and they both sit on gorgeous Mahoe Bay. Nail Bay is more out of the way, but it offers a very wide range of villa prices in all levels of luxury. Leverick Bay also offers a wide range of villas in all levels of luxury, and that area is generally less expensive than other parts of Virgin Gorda.

Guavaberry Spring Bay has a little collection of cottages at Spring Bay, and they manage a few private homes, too. Great location, and their cottages have fantastic rates.

Virgin Gorda is a great little island--perfect for snorkeling, beaching, dayttripping, or doing nothing at all.

I'd also consider Peter Island. Might not consider it "true Carribean" since it is on a private island, but it does make for a great honeymoon spot.

We stayed in Mango Bay last year in a beach front condo and loved it. Remote, great water and nice hotel staff. Also very safe. VG is one of my all time favorite Caribbean destinations so far, you will have a great time.

I've never been a resort person and even Biras, Bitter End and Little Dix hold no appeal for me.

ejcrowe's Guavaberry suggestion is excellent and I would go one further and suggest The Beach House, managed by Guavaberry. http://www.puzzlepiece.net/villas/beachhouse/

Its 2BR and sits right on Spring Bay which I believe is the finest small beach I've ever seen. This is beside The Baths but there is no direct access between The Baths and Spring Bay (= no crowds).

Tina at Guavaberry can help arrange anything you could want to do and they also have a well stocked mini-grocery at your disposal.

If you like independence and privacy, this is a great option for you.

I've stayed at Guavaberry and walked by the Beach House every day as I arrived at Spring Bay. If it were me, this is where I'd go...hands down.
