Budget beachfront self-catering St. Lucia?
Great beach, good snorkeling, no pool, minimal tourists...No all-inclusive...we enjoy cooking!
Affordable (aka budget) house / apartment ON beach in St. Lucia. Any ideas anyone? We are a party of 6 (one child), so a 2 bath, 2 or 3 bedroom with air-conditioning and kitchen. We are going Christmas 2013.
Thanks in advance!

I don't see St Lucia as a budget beachfront self catering holiday destination, sorry but I can't imagine shopping and cooking on this island. You can't expect minimal tourists at Christmas either. St Lucia is not known for snorkelling although there are a couple of beaches where the snorkelling is good, Anse Cochon and around Anse Chastanet. The beaches are darker sand in the south of the island and lighter sand in the north. You might find a guesthouse that at least provides breakfast could suit your needs.
I would recommend AI or stay near Rodney Bay/Reduit Beach area where there are restaurants. How are you planning to get around the island to do the food shopping?

I have to agree with the above. Your expections for that particlular destination is not realistic.
I would suggest Turks and Caicos, Curacao or Grand Cayman instead. If you are wanting Christmas week, most everything books up a year in advance and it the highest priced season of the entire year. There will be nothing "budget" found.

what about Roatan Honduras? West Bay Beach area, look on www.vrbo.com It isn't St.Lucia but has the rest (cab to groceries though but everything else is there). Not nearly as expensive as the Caribbean especially at Xmas

You can't go wrong with St. Lucia Beach Cottages, they are clean ,secure, safe and friendly, with nice little kitchens and porch overlooking the ocean.Well stocked grocery store close by and super good restaurants a short taxi ride away and lots of interesting day trips and tours.A mix of Brits,Canadians and Americans make it interesting and you can't beat the calm water at the beach which is a stones throw from the back porch. I think this is the place you are looking for. Dick K.

Thank you all for the reply! For the last few holidays we have been to Barbados, where there are hundreds to choose from ON the beach with a kitchen and separate bedrooms. We wanted to find a new island to check out. It is frustrating...I have look at Grenada, Aruba and Antigua. Sigh…
Wingfoot1, if you meant villabeachcottages.com, we considered these...They appear really nice.
Again, thanks for your responses.
