Bonaire - Off beach snorkelling /Scuba , is it really great?
Hi
I live in USA, in the northeast. I love to snorkel and see reefs and fishes...did that a lot in hawaii. I was looking for a like minded group that would fly from US.... that I can join. Then came across a scuba lessons company that does trips to carribean often. They are doing a week long trip to Bonaire. Staying at a place called "Buddy dive".
My question is , are there good "off the beach" spots for snorkelling near "buddy dive"?
Planning to scuba certify there in Bonaire and take my first dive too LOL.
Please advice!

Bonaire is a great island for snorkelling and scuba but in my experience, Grand Cayman is still the best. I think you'll be fine for purposes of learning & getting certified. There are no beaches to speak of in Bonaire, but there are plenty of off shore snorkel and scuba dive spots all over the island.

My bf and I rented bicycles and rode all along the coast, stopping to snorkel at around 10 different spots during our trip. The access is easy but the only issue is how quickly the water gets very deep so the reef can be quite far below you (this is why people love walk-in shore diving so much here). We had a really great time but be prepared to be snorkeling in deep waters and get a book online that details which of the 60 spots to put on your top 10 list. It's pretty gorgeous.
If you love snorkeling from shore, Culebra was also great -- easy access from shore and a wide range of reef and sea life. Snorkeling or diving around Klein Bonaire (and hanging out on the island for lunch) is totally great -- a must do. Not sure if you need Buddy Dive to coordinate everything for you -- you might want to price certification costs and see if it's worth it.
