Bitter End Yacht Club or somewhere else?

I am planning a summer 2017 Caribbean vacation and would love some input. Honeymooned at the Bitter End Yacht Club 25 years ago and loved it. Now trying to decide if we should go back there with our 2 kids (20 & 23). Is it worth the $$$? Air fare is going to be outrageous and a week there is $10,000 plus. What I loved about BEYC was the access to different boats and all of the excursions. Have also enjoyed Jamaica. Round Hill and Tryall. Love having a house to ourselves with staff to cook for us! Also, much easier to get there. I am having a hard time making a decision. Any insight would be much appreciated!

Where are you coming from? Have you considered flying to St. Thomas and ferrying over to the BVI? Couldn't be much easier, but could be way cheaper than flying to EIS.

Have you considered doing a crewed (or captained) yacht charter? Off-season, I imagine the rates will be competitive with BEYC -- you'll have access to the boat as well as water toys, you'll get all the "excursions" you want, and you'll get the quintessential BVI experience.

I agree with Callaloo, and I would add have you considered a private villa on St. John? You fly to St. Thomas, rent a car there, and ferry over to St. John. There are villas in every price range, we spent a week there this year. Lots to do - hiking, boating, driving and snorkeling off the roadside beaches, a couple of towns for shopping and dining...Summer villa prices are usually lower too. Check homeaway for villas, and go from there.

The major charter companies (try Moorings) offer crewed boats (with captain and cook) or captained boats (without cook) -- visit their website. Also, there are many independent boats that you can find through a charter broker (e.g. Ed Hamilton). I would suggest visiting the BVI forum on www.traveltalkonline.com to get specific advice. Moorings also can provide help on travel arrangements.
