Biras Creek vs. Peter Island
My wife and I are planning a (5 year anniversary) trip to the BVI early spring of 06. Was totally sold on Biras Creek and ready to book the trip when I stumbled on Peter Island. From the pictures it looks like there may be a little more to do on Peter Island. The beaches looked nicer and larger on Peter Island as well, but those are just pictures. I'm a little nervous about the references to the "Amway" groups that always occupy the resort. Nothing against Amway, but I don't want to spend my vacation listening to someone try and sell me soap. My question is, can anyone recommend one resort over the other? Has anyone been to Peter Island and had any interaction (good or bad) with people working with Amway? Both places appear to be great choices, probably can't go wrong with either. But I just want to see if anyone out there has any opinions. Thanks.

Both resorts are very nice but I give Peter Island the nod over Biras Creek mainly because PI has better beaches. Other than that they are fairly comparable as they are both accessible only by boat and are very private. The food and service at either place will not disappoint you.
To allay your fears - you will not be bothered by any Amway sales people - it just doesn't happen. In fact most of the guests who visit are not even aware of the Amway connection.

I don't get all of the references to Amway. Having been there in Dec a few years ago, I did not notice a mention of Amway anywhere except maybe the toiletries in the bathroom. Noone is waiting for you in the lobby to hawk their stuff. Or on the beach for that matter.
Quite frankley, the only time I have heard of Amway is reading this board.

I think Peter Island used to be owned by the Amway Corp., but perhaps not any longer. In any case, it's hardly a forum to sell Amway stuff, it's one of the most luxurious, private islands, and only their very top executives were brought there.

The ownership apparently used to be comprised of two of the original founders of Amway; a few years back the one partner sold his half to other. While I was there he was referred to as a private entrepreneur. It was only when one would ask a staff member of the connection to Amway would it be confirmed.
Other than that I wouldn’t worry; it's such a special place, once you set foot on the island you will only be thinking of relaxing and enjoying yourself.

Both islands are very upscale. No one is going to sell you anything. I prefer Biras only because it is so seluded for a romantic stay. They have outdoor showers in the bathrooms.
You also have the Bitterend Yacht club to possibly go for a day sail. It is very nice there also.

We are going back to Biras creek in 3 weeks even though we could have used points and stayed at Peter Island at no out of pocket expense..points would have covered all.
I know PI is beautiful, but there just something about it that makes me hesitate, I just can't put my finger on it..maybe I'm jsut a bit nutty - LOL
Having been to Biras I can tell you it is very romantic, peaceful and has a casual elegance. I like the felling of seclusion as that portion of the island has no roads, but also being a ferry ride away to the town...which is fun. I also love the boston whalers and the bicycles..
I also found the beach to be beautiful...not expansive like Anguilla or T+C but beautiful non the less.
just my .02

I have been to Peter Island twice and Biras
Creek once (more recently). Between the
two, I would say that Biras Creek would have my vote. It was peaceful. tasteful,
restful, and the food was excellent. As to the comments on Amway, I have some direct
experience with this issue. On my husband
and my first trip to Peter Island (when Amway was the owner) we shared our transfer over with a very rowdy group of travel agents from Europe who were being given free accommodations by the resort.
There were also many guests there who had
"earned" their vacations for being top sellers
in the organization. In a word, it was not a very tasteful/restful vacation for ourselves who had paid top dollar. I do not know if Amway is still involved. Our second trip was
better. We were able to stay in the beach cottages on Deadman's Bay, but I am told that now if one does not stay 7 nights this is not an option. In my opinion, the older two-story units overlooking the harbor are just not of the same caliber. The beach at Biras is excellent - perhaps not as expansive as at Peter Island, but there are far fewer guests
to share. Also, many excursions are available. My daughter and I (with whom I
shared the Biras trip), who have been to many of the favorite "upscale" Caribbean locations, still reminsce fondly about our Biras sojourn as one of the absolute best
vacations ever. Hope this helps.
