Beware of Sea Feathers Management Company in the Turks and Caicos!

Beware! We rented a villa from Sea Feathers Management Company for 10 days this February. The second night that we were there someone came into our bedroom, WHILE WE WERE SLEEPING, and robbed us of about $6000 worth of electrical items. Camera, Kindle, computer, etc. When we realized that we had been robbed I immediately contacted the manager, who it turns out is also the owner, and asked him for his help. His response, "There's nothing I can do about it." I asked him to come and help me with the local authorities and again got the same response. He said that he had other clients to meet at the airport, etc. and basically let us fend for ourselves. We moved out immediately and the owner refused to compensate us at all for our loses. I even offered to come to a compromise. NOTHING. All we got from the owner were repeated phone calls to remind us of what had happened. Literally at the airport on our departure day we were still getting harassed. This being our third year in a row coming to the island I have met many locals and other property managers. Across the board, when I spoke to them, they all confirmed that they were not surprised by the owners lack of action or compassion. I learned that the owners are not highly respected at all. PLEASE, I HOPE ANYONE WHO READS THIS SHARES IT WITH ANYONE THEY KNOW CONSIDERING GOING TO TURKS AND CAICOS. I will go back again next year as Provo is one of my favorite places in the world but I WILL NOT RENT ANYTHING FROM SEA FEATHERS! Good luck and Beware.

i'm sorry you had such a bad experience. did you file a police report? i assume/hope they were more interested in assisting you. how lucky that you were able to find a new place at the last minute!
as seafeathers rents more than one villa could you tell us which house it was - i've done a villa vacation 3 times to provo and plan to go back, so would certainly like to avoid it and most villas are cross listed, as you must already know.
for future reference i've had very good experience renting with: http://www.northshorevillas.com/

thanks, Virginia. The villa we rented is called Mimosa. Sea Feathers manages 5 villas in total and all of them are on Provo. I know they also mentioned on called Ligura or something like that. I'm going to check out your suggestion for villa rentals. Enjoy your vacation! I will go back to TCI next year!

That's a horrible experience, so sorry. Did you leave your place unlocked? And were the authorities helpful?

I read your review of Sea Feathers with interest.
Are the owners still the Colliers? Peter + Sally.
They used to manage a property on Provo for me?
Where was your property located?
regards
Steve

When you have break in anywhere I am unsure what responsibility the property manager has.If you have property stolen from a hotel room in the US the hotel is not going to compensate you. That is what you have home owners insurance for and yes it covers your property world wide. Apart from reporting the incident to the police there is little you can do. I like others am curious as to whether the house was locked.Did you really expect the property manager to give you $6,000? That is a large amount of electrical goods to have on holiday. Did you make an insurance claim when you got home?

While it is indeed unfortunate that you were the victims of a break-in and robbery the event was not the property manger's or the property owner's fault. Neither bears any responsibility for the crime and to expect them to compensate you for the loss of your property is ludicrous. The fact they didn't offer any assistance in contacting authorities shows a lack of professionalism on their part but that's the extent of their shortcoming.

Unless you have proof that the property manger or owner were somehow involved in the theft or that they were somehow negligent (i.e. they knew the villa was somehow unsafe because there were no locks on the doors and windows) there is no way they have any liability. While it would have been a fine gesture for them to reimburse you for the loss they had no obligation to do so. Similarly, you would not be entitled to any refund of the rent since you vacated the premises early (you didn't mention this as an issue). I doubt any other property manger/owner would reimburse you for any loss of property under similar circumstances. If they did it would be the exception, not the norm.

If you have not yet done so, you should file a claim with your homeowners insurance company as the policy should cover your personal property.

Again, being the victim of a crime is certainly disheartening but to expect someone other than the perpetrator(s) to make restitution is asking too much. File an insurance claim, that's most you can expect.

It is very unfortuante that this happened to you, however, I just returned from the trip of a lifetime at a gorgeous villa managed by Peter and Sallie of Sea Feathers, and they could not have been nicer and were available at all hours of the night and day.
Prior to our departure, all emails and phone calls were responded to within 24 hours and handled courteseuosly and professionally. I will tell you I made the mistake of "googling" Sea Feathers the evening before departure and read this blog with horror. Upon arrival the next day, Peter greeted us warmly at the airport and assisted in our rental car and luggage. He then lead us the 15 minute drive to the villa and gave us the grand tour, (I was so thankful he led the way, as I had never driven a car with the steering wheel on the right-I have driven on the left side of the road many times however with an american car.) Our large villa came equipped with a security system and locked gates. No it did not look like Fort Knox, and we all felt completely safe. Peter gave us some wonderful suggestions on places and restaurants to visit, and every single one held Peter and Sally in high regard. Not to diminish the terrifying experience brklynlow had, we all had the opposite opinion of Sea Feathers. Every incident is different, and I am grateful our experience with Peter & Sallie of Sea Feathers was outstanding. I would highly recommend them to all family and friends.

I just returned from a Christmas vacation in one of their rentals. Peter and Sally were wonderful and VERY helpful to any of our needs. Infact they are some of the most delightful people I have ever delt with in my travels.

I always wonder and am wary when first time posters register to post either a rant or a rave--with no other trip details.

No one in their right mind would ask a guest to write a review in response to a posting this old. I read this when it was new and it has been buried for months. No one would want to resurrect the thread and having someone plant a post would just dig up something better left buried. Not every first time poster is a plant and should be given the benifit of the doubt until proven otherwise.

Unfortunately, our experience with Sea Feathers LTD in Turks & Caicos was not good. We rented a villa from them over the Christmas holidays, "Ocean Palms" It was certainly nice enough. Although a bit dated. The on line pictures of Ocean Palms are much nicer then it actually is. It needs a mini facelift. No heater in the swimming pool either. However, that was not at all the issue. The manager of Sea Feathers would over ride our security code whenever we would leave the villa. Our little boy had $400.00 stolen from his Spiderman wallet. It was money he had received from all of his relatives over Christmas. I had a pair of very expensive sapphire earrings go missing as well. One day, the manager thought we would be gone because that is what we told him. (He had asked what our plans were for the day.) Anyway, we decided in a change of plans but did not mention it to him. Sure enough, he came into our villa thinking we would be gone. We instead were getting professional massages. He just glared at us & left abruptly. At the time we rented from him, his wife helped with all the in office stuff, we never actually meant her. He would also bring his little dog along. Trust me, it's a ruse.

To be perfectly clear, I was NEVER asked to write a review from Peter or Sallie. When I travel I primarily use Trip Advisor and other web sites, as Foders is only one of many. I am not retired, therefore, I do not have many hours to devote online. I had a wonderful birthday week with my girlfriends and wanted to share my experience, pure and simple. It's unfortunate when travelers have a bad experience and I agree it should be shared/alerted to others. However, always consider the source and investigate all reviews from said "source". Most of my reviews on TripAdvisor are good, but when I receive poor service, I will alert others. Sea feathers and Peter and Sallie were wonderful to us and our rental was Villa Palermo. Our expectations were high and they were met. Nothing was stolen and I am a professional photographer and when not using my equipment, I placed them in the provided safe, along with passports, jewelry, etc. All the rental villas should have this security, and if not, the owners need to provide it.
