Best place to stay in Bermuda

My husband and I want to go to Bermuda next summer. He and I both love small intimate hotels, with villas and a very personal, but informal(non prudish) atmosphere. So after reviewing hotel information, I am trying to decide which hotel would be better: Pompano Beach club or the Surf Side Beach Club? We love being able to walk right out of our room and onto the beach. We also love a lively group and a bar/restaurant on the beach, where entertainment is provided some nights. Has anybody been to eiher of these places, and what can you tell me about them? If not, what other places can you suggest that might be what we are looking for? Any advice would be of help. Thanks.

Hi - Thought it is not on your list, my girlfriend and I stayed at the Royal Palms Hotel a year ago and it was fabulous; I think it is exactly what you are looking for in terms of small intimate hotel, except that you cannot walk onto the beach. It is near downtown hamilton.

We have stayed at The Surfside for many years. It is a wonderful small hotel with a fabulous view. The beach is tends to come and go with the west wind, when it is in its wonderful. If its out ( no sand or beach) we use the pool or moped over to Warwick or Chaplins Bay. This is our favorite spot in Bermuda, great staff and nice and low key. The restaurant is a new addition, and it very nice. A lively group at the restaurant and beach is something not at Surfside or Pompano. Would be happy to answer any questions abut Surfside and Bermuda.

The Reefs would fit perfectly, except that most lanais require a walk down a path to the beach below. And although I've never been, I have been researching Ariel Sands, and believe that would fit, as well. Have fun planning!

Hi, I live in Bermuda but before we moved down here we used to come here as tourists. Our favorite place is Surf Side, it's close to the city, has a private beach, lovely restaurant, and friendly staff. It's on the south shore with strong surf and little nooks to sit and watch the ocean. Pompano Beach Club is on the west end, has very little surf, but a lovely sunsets. Remember in Bermuda, you're restricted to taxis, buses, mopeds, or walking so finding a place near the road helps. Both these places are on hills overlooking the ocean and both have many, many repeat guests. Pompano is adjacent to a golf course if that suits you. Surf Side is more conveniently located. Surf Side has a longer beach for strolling.

I think for 'lively group/restaurants on the beach' you're looking at the larger hotels such as Elbow Beach, Sonesta, and Southampton Princess Hotel.

I hope you enjoy your trip to Bermuda, it truly is a lovely island. Joyce

Thanks guys for all of your helpful information. I am seriously considering the Surfside. Penny, how would you describe the crowd. Older? Younger? etc.. The crowd doesn't have to be lively, but is there any entertainment? For example some nice calypso?

Hi Delta, the crowd is mixed. Europeans and Americans, for many years the hotel was owned by the Naess family from Oslo. Lots of repeaters! In summer there might be more kids-have only been there in in May, June, Sept and October. No entertainment at all, but the Elbow beach is just a very short bus ride-taxi ride, about 5 minutes, and they can have a lively crowd, and entertainment. The hotel has a great location-10 minutes to Hamilton too!

Hi Delta,
Just FYI - We found NO calypso on Bermuda! No jazz either; in fact, had a really hard time finding live music other than the pianist at dinner. Isn't that odd? Evidently, the pop combos are brought in on weekend eves. Finally had one at our hotel our last night (a Friday), and did find one Thursday night (actually, the same that ended up at our hotel on Friday) at the Sonesta. Good Luck!
