Hi there, I am heading to the US for work and wanted to take a side trip to the Carribean while I'm there for a quick break and see a new country. I was hoping to get suggestions on a place where it's safe for a single girl to travel, and where it's not weird to just eat, drink solo etc. Thanks!

I'm also female and have traveled solo to Barbados, St. Lucia, and Turks & Caicos (Providenciales). I felt safe when I visited each country, and there are many other islands I would not hesitate to travel to by myself.

People will be able to provide more useful feedback if you explain a little bit more about your preferences (quiet v active island, types of activities you want to do, all inclusive resort or non AI, etc.) and constraints (e.g., budget, length of time for trip, and time of year).

I do know what you mean about feeling weird about dining alone. It generally isn't a problem for me except for dinner at some of the fancier restaurants. I usually try to deal with this by: 1) skipping restaurants that I feel may be too snobby or romantic, 2) mixing in more casual dining with finer dining, 3)bringing a book with me to restaurants, and/or 4) eating at the bar instead of getting a table. Also, dining alone is one of those things where I feel that the more you do it, the more comfortable it becomes.

P.S. If you are interested in an AI resort, the Body Holiday at LeSport in St. Lucia is the place that I went to that caters most to solo travelers. They have 30 something rooms that are for single occupancy and have a communal table available for solo travelers.

I have been around the world by myself. (pretty much everywhere but South America.)

I have travelled to numerous islands on my own, and would have no problems going back most places on my own.

Beachdreams3 is right, all the islands are different from each other, and have different things to offer.

Also depends where in US you are going, may not be able to have a "quick break." Some islands require all day to reach, and all day to come back. (Between connections, airport waits, flight times to destinations-some may even require overnight stay depending where you're coming from, and easy access to certain islands)

Check out the all-inclusive resorts or any of the destination spas. Beaches, Dreams, Sunscape are all suggestions to consider for various budgets. Women traveling solo or for girlfriend getaways are very popular and most welcome women travelers. They have special amenities and security for women traveling alone.

Not Caribbean, but Mexico. Playa del Carmen is a great town that I would easily go to alone. It would be an easy town to go to a restaurant and sit at a bar for a meal and strike up conversations if you want. Staff everywhere is so friendly.
