Who's been on Barbados several times, or knows a lot about the island and is able to give me a few really good hints 'bout dining, lodging, bathing, diving, dancing etc.? A quiet place, not everyone found yet? A strange, but interesting thing? Anything?!
Best of Barbados?

Sure! I came back from my 17th trip there this July and found some new places I had never been before. I'd love to know where you're going to be staying so I can give you places in your immediate area, but in general, my favorate dining places are The Rusty Pelican, The Ship Inn, The Boat Yard and Bombas on the casual/less expensive side, and Pisces, Fathoms, Carambola and the Cliff on the more expensive/romantic dining side. West coast is excellent for snorkeling, waterskiing, banana boat rides, etc. Hotels a bit more $$ as are the restaurants, but the beaches are awesome and the area is very quiet. The south coast is a little windier with bigger waves - good for Hobiecat sailing, windsurfing, etc., but still has great beaches. More (and more affordable) restaurants to choose from, more nightlife in the area. If you haven't picked a hotel yet, let me know which coast you think you'd like better. Several PADI dive shops are available and offer "resort courses" for non-divers. Snorkeling is AWESOME off of a 5hour trimaran sail called Sin-Bad. He also takes you to another site for swimming with and/or feeding these HUGE sea turtles - the most incredible experience of my life! Must sees: North point (Animal Flower Cave); Cherry Tree Hill; Bathsheba; Crane Beach Hotel; Wildlife Reserve; Flower Forest. Dancing to great local bands is widely available in clubs like The Ship Inn/Coach House, The Boatyard, Harbour Lights, etc. Let me know if there's anything else I can tell you about! It's a wonderful place!
Hi Christina,
I agree with Cathy on all counts. Would also like to add that "DAVID'S" in St Lawrence Gap (southwest coast) has wonderful food at very reasonable prices. Hmmm would love to have some Baxter Road Chicken and cheese bread right now. [smile]
Barbados has many lovely and very affordable villas for rent. I have stayed at Solandra on the Sandy Lane Golf Course and Sea Symphony up near Speightstown. I highly recommend the latter for its beauty, tranquility and ambience. Villas are staffed with cook, maids, car, etc. You also have a pool and are very near the beach (less than 30 yards) I find villa life to be the ultimate 'pleasure vacation' and extremely affordable. Let me know if you need more info.
How could I forget David's! Another great place! Cheryl, I'd love to hear more about Sea Symphony - came across it many times in different places (Ins & Outs of B'dos, Websites, brochures from Alleyne, Aguilar & Altman, etc.) I've stayed in a few "villas" down there, but not "luxury" villas. Have you stayed in any others that you would not recommend?
