It seems that a lot of people on this board love Jamaica, especially Negril. What is your favorite hotel in Negril?

I'd say there are roughly 100 hotels in Negril at nerly every price point ($15 to camp on their fenced in area off the beach to $500+ a night for Moondance Villas).

I've stayed at maybe 5-6 of them and enjoyed them all, some more than others. Ones I have enjoyed most include Rondel Village, Nirvana, Blue Cave Castle and Whistling Bird, all but Blue Cave on the beach (BCC is on the cliffs).

Hubby and I just got back from Negril. We stayed at MoonDance Villas. I have been on many vacations to many places and I must say, this topped everything!! It was amazing from the moment we arrived and although it was pricey, I have to say the value was there!! We are already trying to figure out when we can go back!!

CocoLaPlam for a family destination on Negril Beach, or Idle Awhile for a quiet couples retreat on Negril Beach. They are located next to one another on the finest part of Negril beach. The staff at CLP is incredible!!!

Swept Away for the simple beauty of the rooms, the fabulous sports facilities, the emphasis on health, the variety of scrumptious healthy things to eat, and an atmosphere of peace, quiet, & romance.

Negril not my top pick on island but The Caves, Idle-A-While, Jackie's on the Reef and Tensing Pen have the most character; CocoLaPalm decent for families.

Having stayed at neither one but having passed both and had friends stay at both I'd say Idle Awhile.

Idle is more couples-oriented while Coco is family-friendly. Idle has fabulous suites.

If they aren't actually next door to each other they're very, very close.

If you do book Coco, ask NOT to be in the Coco Inn (now part of Coco la Palm), you want the original hotel.

I think Idle doesn't have a pool if that matters.

Coco and Idle Awhile are next to each other. I have only stayed at Coco. It is more family oriented but not overrun by kids. Idle Awhile is more chic - classier. The suites around the pool at Coco are very nice though. The pool is nice there but we never really used it. One thing I observed about Coco that I didn't see anyplace else - except when I stayed at Swept AWay - was that the motorized vehicles stayed away from there beachfront. They were close but they didn't hang out there like they did at many of the other places. I don't know whether the owners have anything to do with that or not, but I liked not having to worry about drunk jetskiers running me over.

CocoLaPalm has a very large, roped off swimming area that keeps the jet skis and such at bay (no pun intended). The DreamGirl sits right next to the area to the north....they have an arrangement with the hotel for snorkeling and other watersports. The suites surrounding the large pool, are indeed, the nicest the resort has to offer....along with 5 newly remodeled beachfront units that we have looked at as well. We have comptemplated staying at Idle Awhile in the past....we have toured the property and it is nice! But my wife keeps telling me that she'd be looking up the beach to CocoLaPalm wishing we were there....that says a lot. BTW...we are a couple in our 30's. We brought our 8 month old with us this last time in June and he was most popular with the Jamaicans! An amazing populous of islanders!
