Headed to Antigua in 6 days and heard that the resort we are staying at has a lovely beach but the water is cloudy. Bought new snorkelling gear and anxious to use it. Can anyone recommend best bet beaches. We will have access to a car for part of the trip.

Where are you staying? I rather like the reef off of Long Bay on the northeast tip of the island. Once you get past the 15-20 ft dropoff that is about 100 yards off shore, you can see some nifty stuff. Great beach bar there for lunch. If you rent an umbrella and chairs, they deduct the rental price from your lunch or bar tab.
I also like the catamaran 1/2 and full day sails that take folks to the small islands just off the north coast--we were on a boat that stopped at Bird Island for the day and the water was beautfully clear. I saw more parrotfish that day than anywhere else I've snorkeled.
There's a beach on the opposite side of the island that I stopped at one day that was very good for snorkeling. It was fairly deserted and it was either Darkwood or Ffryes (we stopped at both, but I can't remember which one was the better one for snorkeling.)
HOpe you have a great time on Antigua!
Thanks so much for the great tips. We are staying at Jolly Beach Resort and are hoping to walk to Darkwood beach to try snorkelling there. Bird Island came highly recommended on another travel forum so will definitely arrange a trip to the island. Thanks again - I can hardly wait to leave!
